The interns are in trouble in Grey's Anatomy season 20! Who's most likely to get fired?
Grey’s Anatomy is finally returning for a historic Season 20! But is it possible some of the new interns do not survive the Season 20 premiere? Find out more!
2023 was a notable year as, for the first time since 2004, Grey’s Anatomy didn’t air in the fall. Like all ABC shows, the series was affected by the WGA and SAG strikes across Hollywood that prevented it from making a fall premiere date.
Luckily, the strikes were settled, and production pushed fast, so Season 20 will premiere in March. The trailer has shown some notable faces, with the return of Jessica Capshaw as Arizona Robbins and Natalie Morales as a new doctor clashing with Amelia.
However, a scene has the interns being blamed after a patient dies, and the hint that one may be cut. So, which of these new Grey’s doctors might be worrying the most about their jobs?
Which intern could be fired on Grey’s Anatomy?
It does look like Adams and Griffith might be safe, given that they were last seen ready to hook up right after Griffith ran out on her own wedding. However, when Griffith’s would-be fiance turned up as a patient, he punched Adams, so things might be getting a tad tense. Still, it’s hard to see the show cutting either of them loose right after their romance got started. Plus, Amelia probably will want to protect her nephew from getting cut loose.
Kwan might be in trouble as he resuscitated a patient despite her orders. That’s gotten him in hot water as it is, so a patient dying under his watch could be the last straw to firing him. However, it did lead to Jules admitting she truly cared for Kwan. So, likewise, it’s unlikely the show drops either of them after this new romance starts, plus how engaging the two actors are.
That leaves Mika, who frankly hasn’t had as many good storylines as the other four. She’s a capable doctor and a fun character, but one the writers just don’t seem to have as much use for. With Natalie Morales joining the show as a new doctor (and possible love interest for Amelia), there’s going to be less room for other characters to grow. Throw in Mika’s known drive and ego, and it’s possible she ends up being the fall person for this mistake and cut.
It’s always possible the show is doing a fakeout, and none of the interns end up really fired. However, figuring out which could be dropped is another reason fans are excited to see Grey’s Anatomy finally make its return.
Grey’s Anatomy returns Thursday, March 14, at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
