The Law and Order shows sign off in May and here's what to expect
The Law and Order shows are set for their finales on May and each has some major drama to showcase! Here's when they air and what to expect!
The franchise's slate got a later start due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes but made up for it with big turns. The mothership bid farewell to Sam Waterston's Jack McCoy, who resigned to mitigate blowback from a case involving the mayor's son. He was replaced by Tony Goldwyn's Nicholas Baxter.
Law and Order: SVU has shuffled the detectives around as Rollins (Kelli Giddish) seemed tempted to rejoin the NYPD. Law and Order: Organized Crime has involved several cases while also exploring Stabler's family issues.
Ahead of their finales, Law and Order and SVU were renewed while rumors abound that Organized Crime will be moving to Peacock, but this is not confirmed yet. Now, all three shows are set to air their finales on May 16 and some intriguing storylines.
What's coming on the Law and Order finales?
Law and Order
The night begins with the mothership Law and Order as "In Harm's Way" puts a spotlight on Baxter when his own daughter is a witness to a murder.
"When a sports star is killed, Shaw and Riley suspect the shooter missed their intended target. Baxter's daughter comes forward as a witness, but her public testimony could impact his re-election campaign with the confession of a family secret."
We haven't had much insight into Baxter's past, so putting him in the crosshairs of this case is a big deal. It must be remembered that he's only the district attorney until an election is held, so this may jeopardize his political career. It's unlikely the show is writing out Goldwyn so soon, but this episode will bring some intriguing drama.
Law and Order: SVU
SVU has "Duty to Hope" with the team trying to stop a criminal before he becomes a murderer, and Fin reaching out to a victim.
" The SVU searches for a pattern assailant before his crimes escalate to murder. Fin must contend with a suspect's aggrieved son. Carisi is pressured to close the case quickly to ease public concern. "
This seems a more low-key finale than previous seasons although it's possible it could lead to another shuffle in the SVU squadroom. It's unsure if Giddish would be returning or not as Carisi is going to be put in the spotlight a bit for a strong season finale.
Law and Order: Organized Crime
Finally, Organized Crime wraps up the plotline of Stabler trying to save his brother, Joe, who's fallen in with a private military group that's gone rogue. It also seems yet more Stabler family drama is getting in the way for "Stabler's Lament."
"When the ATF Bureau plans a raid of Redcoat's warehouse, Trisha promises to help Stabler keep Joe Jr. safe. Bell comes face to face with the man who killed Sam. Another Stabler family dinner causes tensions to run high."
After mending from injuries, Bell is back and ready for some payback on the guy who killed undercover cop Sam. Stabler will have to risk his job to keep his brother safe, while it's likely he'll have to deal more with the knowledge his father was an abusive man who took his own life.
So May 16 brings some major drama for all three Law & Order shows to cap off these short but strong seasons.
Law and Order Thursdays start at 8/7c on NBC.
