Lore Olympus, the juggernaut webcomic by Rachel Smythe that took Webtoon by storm after its launch in 2018, came to a close this year on the app. It'd been a long road for Smythe and the fans who'd fallen in love with Persephone and Hades' story. Told over the course of six years in weekly updates, the webcomic has garnered quite the fanbase with more people being introduced to the tale through the app or the printed versions of Smythe's work being sold in bookstores.

The webcomic gained such a following that in 2019, only a year after the first chapter had been published, Webtoon and the Jim Henson Company decided to partner on an animated series that, at the time, was said to be geared toward a young adult audience. Since then, however, there hasn't been much news on the project. It's been almost five years so it's understandable that fans have begun questioning whether an adaptation is happening after all.

Well, it turns out, Lore Olympus' TV adaptation is still in development. The Jim Henson Company’s President of TV Halle Stanford shared an update during a panel moderated by Variety at San Diego Comic-Con. Stanford confirmed that Smythe is a part of the creative process and had the following to say about the creator's work on the project:

"She’s incredible. She’s been there every creative milestone step of the way. She’s helping us build easter eggs, helping us layer those characters, telling us what kind of flowers come up in Persephone’s hair when she’s feeling somethin"

From the sound of it, the series is well underway which is fantastic news considering how much has been kept hush hush about the endeavor. The easter egg tease is intriguing as it suggests, as expected, there will be differences between the webcomic and the show in regards to content. Smythe's heavy involvement, however, is encouraging as it means the core of the story will remain the same even if some elements are dropped, changed, interpreted slightly different, or happen later or earlier in the show than in the webcomic.

A network or streaming home for the Lore Olympus TV series adaptation has yet to be announced. It's unclear whether or not the program is still being geared toward young adults. Hopefully not considering Persephone is 19 but the majority of the cast are older gods and there's a significant time jump halfway through the story.
