Earlier this week, on The Young and the Restless – Flashback couples continued to dominate the new year. Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) proved incapable of reform. Meanwhile, her son, Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei), could not recognize Heather Stevens' (Vail Bloom) clear intentions.
The Young and the Restless week in review:
- Monday, Jan. 15: Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) re-brands Kirsten Incorporated at the Neil Winters Jazz Lounge, which evokes Nick Newman's (Joshua Morrow) bittersweet memories. Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) tells Summer Newman (Allison Lanier) that he is single. Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) is irked by Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson).
- Tuesday, Jan. 16: Seth (Brian Gaskill) sees Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) at Crimson Lights. Phyllis tries to force a break between Danny and Christine Blair Williams (Lauralee Bell). Heather tells Daniel she is falling back in love with him.
- Wednesday, Jan. 17: Victor Newman's (Eric Braeden) talk with Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) allows him to understand her perspective about Claire Grace (Hayley Erin). Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey Bregman) tells Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) that Nikki is drinking. Christine Blair Williams (Lauralee Bell) catches Danny passionately kissing Phyllis.
- Thursday, Jan. 18: Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) is surprised he and his dad have the same idea about Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters). Seth learns that he can't be Nikki's sponsor. Tucker reinforces his revenge plans and is again shrugged off by Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver).

What's old is new again on The Young and the Restless
Sharon renamed Cameron Kirsten's (Linden Ashby) company on Monday, Jan. 15. Cassidy First Technology adds to speculation that a reunion with Nick is ahead. A potentially better couple's fit,
matching Chance with Summer, now appears wide open. Fans wonder if Billy has been swapped for Nate as Devon's new sparring partner. Lily Winters' (Christel Khalil) return shortly will impact that dynamic.
As the audience saw on Tuesday, Jan. 16, another character has a strange vibe with Nikki. Because Jordan Howard (Colleen Zenk) is locked up, will Seth be the next attacker, or is he a love interest?
It's a bit forced having Phyllis chase Danny decades after he realized who she was. Here's hoping the long-awaited reunion with Christine has merely hit a road bump. However, Heather's aim for Daniel makes sense, especially while Lily is out of town.
Victor's heart-to-heart with Victoria on Wednesday, Jan. 17, provides some relief, as she acknowledges it could be a long time until Claire learns how to trust. Their follow-up conversation with Nikki about Seth reinforces Victor's belief that she needs to find another sponsor. This creates a conflict, with Jack accepting Lauren's plea to become Nikki's default sponsor.
It's deja vu all over again, as the late New York Yankees' great Yogi Berra once said. Cricket could have been talking to Nina Webster (Tricia Cast) at Gina's rather than at Society. Their pained chat about
Phyllis coming between Christine and Danny played out years ago. Viewers hope a turnaround or twist is coming because the couple should be remarried. Why else bring both legacy characters back?
The daytime door remains open a crack on Thursday, Jan. 18, as Kyle's disappointment in Jack's choice to elevate Diane to the Co-CEO position at Jabot. It remains far-fetched to believe Mealor's
character would still throw in with Tucker. But Kyle and Tucker are both reeling, which could provide some common ground. Jack's pitch to be Nikki's sponsor was compelling, which could be a logical way to reignite his dormant battle with The Mustache.
Victor was not overbearing on Friday, Jan 19. Based on what happened with Jordan, it's natural to be curious about Cole's continued presence. Confirming Claire's existence means Peck's character will be part of Victoria's life indefinitely. Whether romance reignites between Victoria and Cole is uncertain. Meanwhle, Cole's other ex-wife, Ashley, could be an option unless she finds a way to forgive the irascible Tucker, who remains in her head.
