This is not the last season of 911! Here's everything we know so far about season 8!
By Cody Schultz
911 season has reached its end, but don’t worry this is not the end for the 118! ABC has renewed 911 for an eighth season which will be coming our way as part of the 2024-25 television, meaning the show will continue for at least one more season – though we’d be shocked if 911 didn’t go on for many more seasons to come given its ratings!
After making the move to ABC, 911 has proven to be a strong performer for the network. In fact, it’s become ABC’s most-watched scripted series this season and is ABC’s fourth most-watched program of the season behind only Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, and The Golden Bachelor.
Given how quickly the show has settled into the network’s Thursday night programming block this season, it’s not at all surprising that ABC has renewed the series. We can’t wait to see what next season will bring for us after how season 7 ended but one thing that is certain is we can surely expect another eventual and exciting season!
911 will return in the fall
While ABC has yet to announce a premiere date for the new season of 911, it has been confirmed that the series will be coming back in the fall! 911 will return sometime in the fall where it will lead into the new Ryan Murphy drama Doctor Odyssey.
Most seasons of Grey’s Anatomy and the ABC Thursday night serieshave begun either the last week of September or the first week of October, so it seems likely that the new season of 911 will arrive sometime in that window of time. If that is indeed the case, we could see the new season premiere on either Thursday, September 26, or Thursday, October 3, 2024.
911 season 8 should be longer than season 7 was
After a shortened seventh season, fans should expect season 8 of 911 to be longer and there is a key reason for that! Season 7 was shortened not because ABC decided to cut back on the number of episodes when saving the show from cancellation after FOX opted not to renew the series. The shorter episode count in season 7 was due to the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes which delayed the start of production on the season.
With the strikes behind us, we’re expecting that the next season of 911 will return to the show’s 18-episode average which means we’ll be getting more episodes next season after this shorter season. There is always a chance ABC could try to do more episodes than 18, but that format has worked well for the show over the years so we don’t anticipate ABC will make any big changes.
The main 911 cast members should be back for season 8
You never know what might happen during the offseason, but heading into season 8 there have been no cast exits announced for 911 meaning all of our favorite actors should be back! Among those expected to return for season 8 are Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Oliver Stark, Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Ryan Guzman!
We’re also expecting the returns of several of the show’s key recurring cast members including Tracie Thoms, Bryan Safi, Gavin McHugh, Corinne Massiah, Anirudh Pisharody, and Louis Ferrigno Jr.
