To say that Superman and Lois season 4 is highly anticipated would be an understatement. Fans, like myself, have been waiting over a year to see how showrunner Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher bring Clark Kent and Lois Lane's story to a close. We know we're in for a bittersweet goodbye. The superhero family drama is ending its run far before its intended close as the hope was that it'd be on air for at least seven seasons.

They are, however, at least ending on a high note according to Tyler Hoechlin. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the star said, "Somehow we may have actually pulled off our strongest season of the series. And that's saying a lot with some of the limitations that we had put on us."

His words are music to fans' ears as the final season is set to have an ambitious season long story as the writing team has adapted The Death of Superman comic arc that centers on the struggle Clark's loved ones and the world go through after his demise. Obviously, given the show has its own set universe, this isn't a note-by-note adaptation but it will be a riveting one. Fletcher said the following in the interview:

"We thought it would be impactful, emotional, surprising. It's important and poignant, and it turns out it's a great send-off for our hero and our family and these iconic characters that you care about. There are a lot of big surprises in it that are thrilling, but there's also big emotion."

"Big emotion" is what Superman and Lois is known for, particularly with its junior season which saw Bitsie Tulloch giving an Emmy worth performance during Lois' breast cancer storyline.

This last bow for the series asks us to imagine a world without Superman and, in keeping with the show's focus on family, Clark Kent. The bespectacled goofball who doesn't need glasses, that is a father and a husband first before he is a hero, is the man these characters have lost. That's going to be the driving beat of the season while Lois contends with the threat of Lex Luthor, her breast cancer, and helping her son's navigate the loss of their dad as she mourns her husband. As Tulloch put it:

"It's epic. And that throws Lois once again into this situation where she is a heroine and she has to keep her family together. It's obviously extremely shocking and traumatizing with just the grief, but also how much time do you have to grieve when you have Lex Luthor [Michael Cudlitz] still coming after you, and when Doomsday is still around? Not much. She really needs to step up and be the strong one for her family, which she does."

But, if you're worried that Hoechlin will be in so little of the season to be bothersome, don't be. There will be flashbacks and other methods that bring Clark to our screens even as we, and his family and friends, sort through the aftermath of his death. One such moment has already been revealed through a still for the season opener which depicts Clark and Lois during their Daily Planet years.

Hoechlin also teased that he as a flashback scene with Dylan Walsh's General Sam Lane, calling the moment "fun" and that he had an "unbelievable time" filming it.

Aside from the Kent-Lane storyline, we'll be catching up with the rest of the show's cast of characters as their own narratives come to a close. With the reduction of the main cast, we'll only be seeing the Cushings, the Ironses, and Chrissy Beppo in a limited capacity. However, Helbing does believe the audience will be satisfied with their appearances in the final season.

"But when we talked to all the cast members, everybody understood it, and they were still committed to being in as many episodes as we could put them in. It also afforded us [the opportunity] wrap all these storylines up in a really satisfactory way. People get a full meal, so the episodes they were in, they're part of the storyline in the way that maybe they weren't the past three seasons, and it's really satisfying."

Expect cameos as well. None but The Flash's Tom Cavanagh as an undisclosed character have been revealed yet, however, Helbing says there are a couple that are "fantastic."

The teases that have been shared thus far for Superman and Lois final season have us even more excited for the premiere on Monday, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. Stay tuned to Hidden Remote and follow The CW Spiral on X for coverage as the season airs!
