Victor's demand ignores Cole's leverage on Young and the Restless
By Sean OBrien
Cole won't bend to Victor's demand on The Young and the Restless. Jordan was discovered, and she is locked up. However, that outcome included Cole gaining leverage over the Moustache.
Victor is rarely in a position of weakness. However, Eric Braeden's character was off his game while holding Jordan hostage in the makeshift prison in the Newman Ranch basement.
Victor's thirst for revenge distracted him, and during one of those instances, Cole caught him entering a secret passageway near the main living room. That led to the revelation that Jordan was alive and captive in the dungeon Victor created for her.
Cole Howard and Michael Baldwin were slow like molasses
Cole sought Michael's input. That was a sage move because it provided backup. However, both men wanted to avoid a confrontation with Victor. They failed in that effort because the Moustache had a motion sensor alarm installed at the passageway.
Alerted to an intrusion, Victor bolted from Society and found Cole and Michael with Jordan. While no GPS data has been made available, devoted viewers know that Abby's restaurant is in town and that the Ranch is in the country part of Genoa City, Wisconsin.
So, suspending disbelief, fans accepted Cole and Michael's lack of focus. They likely had thirty-plus minutes from when the sensor was tripped to when Victor found them standing in front of Jordan's cell.
Let's give Cole and Michael five to ten minutes to talk with Jordan. Then, another five minutes until they securely led her out of the Ranch. With either person's awaiting car, they could have possibly passed Victor on the road when he was approximately halfway to the Ranch.
But that scenario did not play out, and viewers were left to assume Victor transported himself Star Trek-style from inner Genoa City to the Ranch in a matter of minutes. That is not believable, but it was necessary to advance this storyline.
Victor Newman needs to reverse the soapy tables
Cole learned that Victor fired Michael for betraying his trust. By that, Victor meant Michael wronged him when he went along with Cole and made Victor turn Jordan over to the authorities. That led to Victor telling Cole that he was an equal betrayer. J. Eddie Peck's character was then ordered to stay away from Victoria.
The problem with Victor's logic is that he knows Cole has the goods on him. While Victoria could be alienated when learning that the father of their rediscovered daughter, Claire, kept Jordan's existence a secret, that reveal would also include Victor's exposure.
Nikki would also learn the truth, with Victor's restored family stability jeopardized in the short term. Victor does not want that and knows he would be unable to quell Nikki and Victoria's certain outrage.
So, with Cole holding leverage, Victor can only plot some soapy table reversal. Unless, or until that happens, Cole does not need to follow Victor's order to stop seeing Victoria. He will continue riding momentum in what feels like a true romantic reconciliation with her.
