We asked AI who the worst Friends character is (and we totally agree with its answer)
By Cody Schultz
If you’ve ever watched an episode of Friends, chances are that you have more than a few thoughts about the central group of characters at the heart of the show. We all have our favorite member of the ensemble and there are plenty of arguments around who the best character on the show is – and the best thing is that there are legitimate points to why all six characters could be considered the best the show had to often.
There are also just as many points that could be made as to why certain characters from the show could also be considered the worst character on the show. Each of the characters have their own flaws and each makes some questionable decisions over the course of the show’s ten-season run, giving fans the ammunition they need for arguments over why their least favorite characters are the worst of the group.
At the end of the day, there is one character who tends to get a lot of well-deserved hate among fans and often ranks at the bottom of many fans’ lists of favorite characters. We’re talking about Ross Gellar, who is not only often deemed the worst character among fans of the show but apparently is who AI feels is the worst of the Core 6 as well!
AI thinks Ross is the worst Friends character
Eager to know which Friends cast member AI might view as the worst of the Core 6 of Chandler, Joey, Monica, Phoebe, Rachel, and Ross, we decided to ask ChatGPT’s AI a very simple and direct question: Who the worst Friends character is and why?
We didn’t have to influence its decision in any way as it quickly picked Ross as the worst Friends character and we’re not even mad! Here’s why AI thinks Ross is the worst character from Friends:
“Among the main characters of Friends, Ross Geller often stands out as the most polarizing. While he has many endearing qualities, his flaws are sometimes overwhelming. Ross's behavior can come across as controlling and possessive, particularly in his relationship with Rachel. His jealousy leads to significant tension, exemplified by his infamous ‘we were on a break’ argument, which showcases his inability to communicate effectively and take responsibility for his actions. Additionally, his need to be right and his tendency to be self-righteous can make him difficult to sympathize with at times.
Moreover, Ross's professional and personal lives are marred by his awkwardness and social ineptitude. His career as a paleontologist often becomes a source of ridicule, not because of the profession itself, but due to his pretentious attitude about it. He frequently alienates his friends with his condescending remarks and obsession with academic achievements. This behavior, combined with his sometimes overbearing nature, makes Ross a character whose flaws often overshadow his more redeeming qualities, leading many fans to view him as the least likable member of the group.”
Okay, ChatGPT, I see you! I mean, AI definitely summed up the key reasons why many believe Ross is the worst character on the show as his flaws absolutely overshade his, dare I say, limited redeeming qualities.
AI hit the nail on the head in pointing out how Ross often was condescending in his remarks as he indeed had a tendency to talk down to others in the group and around him across the show’s run. But the item I love that AI pointed out was his relationship with Rachel, particularly the controlling and possessive mannerisms he displayed over the season and how unhealthy his jealousy was on the show. Rachel deserved better and that’s a hill I’ll die on, regardless of the hate it might get me.
Every show needs its weak link and AI validating what many fans have said for years about Ross being said weak link is sweeter than Mama's Little Bakery cheesecake!
