What will happen to Theo after that Station 19 ending (and what does it mean for the character?)

The penultimate episode of Station 19 did not disappoint when it came to drama and intensity. Lives were put on the line, and one of those was Theo's.

Theo was not happy with the private company only protecting one house in the growing wildfire in the Station 19 penultimate episode. He helped out his former colleagues when he could, and it was saving the lives of some from a falling tree that his life ended up on the line.

We knew the wildfire was going to put lives on the line. To follow realistic storytelling, it had to. Firefighters put their lives on the line every single day, but wildfires are a huge different kettle of fish. They get out of control quickly, and that’s what we saw at the end of Station 19 season 7, episode 9.

They can also lead to higher winds, which leads to falling trees. Theo found himself trapped under one as he pushed others out of the way of it. And things aren’t looking great for him.

Will Theo survive in the Station 19 series finale?

We will likely need to watch the Grey’s Anatomy season 20 finale to find out what happens to Theo. The promo for the episode had Owen finding out a firefighter had been brought into the trauma room. Bailey immediately panicked, worrying that it would be Warren. Of course, seeing that trailer before watching the Station 19 episode had us concerned as well.

It’s clear that this is Theo. The tree cut into his leg, potentially damaging the femoral artery. Warren also commented that he may have a broken pelvis. Theo was clearly scared and worried that he would die, and he tried to apologize to Vic for everything he’d done to cause their breakup—although Vic wasn’t going to allow him to do that so that he would fight to survive.

The Grey’s Anatomy episode is sure to be an intense one when it comes to saving Theo. It’s sure to be touch and go, and considering we’re going into the Station 19 series finale, this ending could go either way. With Vic and potentially Travis leaving Seattle and the SFD, I had expected to see Andy want Theo back with them, since he quit to help with the budget. However, that now looks unlikely.

What could Theo’s death or survival mean in Station 19?

As it’s the final season, Theo’s death or survival doesn’t mean a lot for what we will see on the screen. However, it will mean something to all the characters we’ve come to know and love.

Let’s look at his death, first. This could have a heartbreaking effect on both Travis and Vic. Theo was close to both of them—friend and lover. There were things left unsaid, and that would potentially haunt them both. Vic had already decided that she was moving across the country, and Travis may be going with her. They’ll take the memory of Theo with them.

While the death would hurt the others, it would be another fallen firefighter. He’ll be remembered in ways that others have before, but it won’t be as haunting for them.

If Theo lives, there will be a few ways it could affect characters. The first is if he makes a full recovery. This could lead to Theo coming back to Station 19 since there will be less of a budget issue and an open space, especially if Travis also leaves with Vic.

If he doesn’t make a full recovery and has to retire, he could make a choice to leave with Vic. They could use this as a chance to have a heart-to-heart and figure out if there is a way forward for them. Or, maybe they are a little more sensible in that they attempt a long-distance relationship to see if things can work out between them.

My gut is telling me that Theo won’t survive, though. We’re going into the Station 19 series finale and that usually means big things happen—sometimes unhappy big things.

The Station 19 series finale airs on Thursday, May 30 at 10/9c on ABC.
