Where on Earth was Halo filmed?
Halo is about to unveil its second season on Paramount+ with more astounding sci-fi vistas! But just where is the adaptation of the popular video games filmed?
In 2001, Halo revolutionized the first-person shooter, making the Xbox a must-buy gaming system. It follows Master Chief, a Spartan soldier in a futuristic war defending Earth from an alien force called the Covenant. Various sequels made it one of the biggest gaming franchises ever.
After numerous failed attempts at a movie version, the series finally came to TV via Paramount+. Pablo Schreiber plays Master Chief, who has to contend with a brutal war against the Covenant while discovering secrets of his past.
The series has packed some stunning visuals of alien worlds, backed by top-notch special effects. That naturally has led to the question of just where it is filmed and where on Earth the producers found places to match the areas from the games.
Just where was Halo really filmed?
The majority of the first season of Halo was filmed in Canada in late 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic shut it down. Filming resumed in Budapest, Hungary, to wrap it up.
For season 2, per Game Rant, much of the filming took place in Iceland. It looks like the producers wanted to use the nation’s mix of gorgeous natural settings and rugged landscapes to fill in for some of the worlds that will be used in the season. Filming also returned to Hungary later in the year as the producers appeared to find it cheaper to use than in Canada. Also, the international appeal adds more to the series.
Besides location shooting, some studios were also used to film the spaceship and base scenes that populate the show. Thankfully, filming was completed before the 2023 Hollywood strikes, the series just needed a lot of post-production work.
It makes sense that the producers had to travel across the planet to film this sci-fi series and how some remote locations could easily fill in the Halo worlds to bring this video game hit to life.
Halo season 2 premieres Thursday, Feb. 8 on Paramount+.
