Twenty years after the original beloved movie, Mean Girls is coming back to the big screens in a bold new way! Find out who’s who in this new reboot!

Written by Tina Fey, Mean Girls was a wild comedy satirizing high school life as homeschooled Cady finds herself clashing with the “Plastics,” a pack of girls who rule their school. This sets up some crazy fights, a bizarre holiday performance, and more antics that are nearly impossible to describe.

The movie was a box office hit while elevating its amazing cast of Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, Amanda Seyfried and Lizzy Caplan. It also was loved for its soundtrack and quotable lines (“stop trying to make fetch happen.”) There’s been talk over the years of a sequel, but instead, it’s a unique remake.

A Broadway musical based on the movie premiered in 2018, mixing original songs with ones from the film. This new movie was intended to be on Paramount+, but the studio has instead decided to release it theatrically. That sounds fun, but who is taking on the roles from the original cast, and are any of the original stars in it?

Who’s who in the Mean Girls 2024 cast?

Coming back for the new version is Fey, once more playing Mrs. Norbury. Likewise, Tim Meadows will reprise his role as Principal Duvall.

The cast is notable as being more diverse than the original 20024 film. Angourie Rice (who played Betsy Brant in the MCU Spider-Man movies) takes on the part of Cady with Renee Rapp as Regina. Bebe Wood is Gretchen, and Avantika Vandanapu is the dim-witted Karen. We also have Ashley Park, who played Gretchen in the Broadway production, appear alongside Jenna Fischer and Jon Hamm.

As for the original stars, Rachel McAdams confirmed she had been approached about a cameo, but it didn’t work out. Lohan, Seyfried, and Chabert had reunited to reprise their roles for a Walmart commercial with McAdams bowing out of it, and it’s unsure if any of the original cast cameo in the new version.

Here's the list of the cast confirmed to appear in the new musical comedy:

  • Angourie Rice as Cady Heron
  • Reneé Rapp as Regina George
  • Auliʻi Cravalho as Janis 'Imi'ike
  • Christopher Briney as Aaron Samuels
  • Jaquel Spivey as Damian Hubbard
  • Bebe Wood as Gretchen Wieners
  • Avantika Vandanapu as Karen Shetty
  • Tina Fey as Ms. Norbury
  • Tim Meadows as Principal Duvall
  • Jenna Fischer as Ms. Heron
  • Busy Philipps as Mrs. George
  • Jon Hamm as Coach Carr
  • Ashley Park as Madame Park
  • Mahi Alam as Kevin Ganatra
  • Connor Ratliff as Mr. Rapp

So, while it’s unsure if more of the original Mean Girls return for this new film, a musical spin on the beloved comedy looks to be a fun ride. The movie premieres in theaters on Friday, Jan. 12. There is no streaming release for the movie just yet, but we'll update you as soon as we learn more!
