Wild Cards wasn't filmed stateside (Where in Canada is the show set?)
By Sabrina Reed
Wild Cards, starring Vanessa Morgan and Giacomo Gianniotti, has made its debut stateside on The CW. The mystery series has a fresh look that may look familiar to viewers who've tuned into much of the network's programming that was filmed in Canada, specifically in Vancouver. However, because the show is co-produced with the CBC, it doesn't have to hide the fact that it's set in the neighboring country.
As such, in the premiere "The Infinity Thief," we get beautiful shots of the city as Max and Ellis work to solve a case that could get them both out of the respective messes. In fact, the shots on the water with Ellis and his house boat are some of the most gorgeous.
In an interview with Hidden Remote, Gianniotti shared that they filmed in False Creek.
"Certainly where my character lives on the houseboat, those were some of my favorite scenes. It's in this place called False Creek in Vancouver, which is sort of like a port in a harbor, so there's just boats around and you're on the water, there's this big, sweeping deck that [Ellis] lives on in his boat. That's where a lot of the fun scenes like as we wrap up the episodes at the end of the day--Max and Ellis, myself and Vanessa [Morgan]--kind of come together and those are some of the more meaty, more character scenes."
The actor also got to film on the speed boat you see his character Ellis on before he's called to the station and meets Max.
Wild Cards tells the audience where it takes place. The series premiere has a blink and you'll miss it shot of a menu that shows Max and Ellis work and live in Vancouver. Viewers can anticipate the setting being a supporting character in the show. According to Gianniotti, filming took place all over Vancouver and British Columbia. This will be a procedural that's out and about with its characters, changing locations to fit the theme, mood, and story of the episode.
Per Hollywood North Buzz, the series also had a day shoot in Toronto, Ontario. We're intrigued by this nugget of information because it could mean the duo are going to be pulled out of their stomping grounds for a major case or it involves a possible season ending cliffhanger. We can't wait to find out.
