With Super Bowl just around the corner, it means that it’s almost time for Puppy Bowl XXI! The adorable pups will take to their field, and you won’t want to skip a beat.
Puppy Bowl XXI takes place on Sunday, Feb. 9. Yes, that’s the same date as the Super Bowl, and it’s one of the highlights of the weekend, especially for the kids in the house. Now you need to make sure you take the time to watch all of it, as there’s a special sneak peek of Superman.
What time is Puppy Bowl XXI on?
Puppy Bowl XXI will start at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT for a reimagined kick-off show. There aren’t many details on what to expect, but this is usually a chance to get to know some of the pups that take place in the event.
Remember that this is all about finding rescues their furever home. We get to meet the 142 adorable pups “competing” in the game and learn more about the shelters that they’re at.
After the initial kick-off show, we’ll get into the game. Kick-off starts at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT. It’s a three-hour “game,” giving pups of all abilities the chance to play. Yes, of all abilities. One of the things that I adore about Puppy Bowl is that we see some of the disabled pups get a chance to run around and play with the toys. This is great to raise awareness of these pups and find them homes.
There are 142 pups from 80 shelters across 40 states (and even two countries) “competing” this year. It’s the most the show has ever had, and we’ll get to see the journeys from birth to adoption. A lot of the pups have already been adopted by the time Puppy Bowl airs—it is filmed at the end of the previous year—but there are still many other dogs waiting to find their furever home.
The pups are split across two teams, Ruff and Fluff. Dan Schachner is back as ref, who is just downright adorable when it comes to telling the pups off for their infractions, which can include digging in the water bowl and doing their business on the field.
Team Fluff will be headed by Julep, the first-ever St. Bernard mix, and Smoosh, the only Pekingese, in Puppy Bowl. Team Ruff is headed by Mr. Pickles, a Pug-Chihuahua, and Tuani, a Chihuahua-German Shepherd cross from Nicaragua.
There will be 11 special needs dogs taking part, including one who is blind and hearing-impaired and one in a wheelchair.
Where to watch Puppy Bowl XXI
Now you need to know where you can watch the game, right? This is one of those events that is available in multiple locations, making it as easy as possible to watch.
If you have Max or discovery+, you’ll be able to watch there. It also airs live on Animal Planet, Discovery, TBS, and TruTV.
Catch a sneak peek of Superman
There’s going to be a sneak peek of Superman during Puppy Bowl XXI. James Gunn and his dog Ozu will deliver a special message before the sneak peek. Ozu is the inspiration for Krypto in James Gunn’s movie.
Superman will be out in theaters on July 11, 2025.
