Affair storylines aren’t entertaining, but that’s something Rescue: Hi-Surf is bringing us. Will and Em are together, but it’s clear they have a deep past. Will the series finally explore that?
From the very start, we’ve known that Em and Will have history. They’re not secret about their history, either, and understandably, it makes some of their partners worried and jealous. I don’t blame Will’s fiancée not wanting Em to come to the wedding. And the fiancée had something to worry about. Em and Will hooked up shortly after that.
It would have been good to have some sort of backstory on the two of them through flashbacks. This may have had us rooting for them instead of starting up an illicit relationship.
Don’t expect flashbacks in Rescue: Hi-Surf
It doesn’t sound like the show has any plans on showing us the past for Em and Will. The focus is all on the current day for the two of them, according to TVLine. We’ll get to see what their relationship is progressing to over the first couple of episodes when the series returns.
In the fall finale, they weren’t exactly hiding things well. It was clear that they were interested in each other still, and if I worked there, some of their looks would have been uncomfortable. The only way for this series to go is to out the affair. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone at work found out and told the two to either be honest with their partners or the person finding out would tell them.
Can a relationship between Em and Will work?
They’ll also need to have a discussion about whether there is hope in their future. Can their relationship work, or are they throwing away something for nothing?
Em may be promoted to captain soon. There are clear rules when it comes to dating in the workplace, especially when it is between ranks. The two wouldn’t be able to work together because of their relationship, which will then lead to questions about who is leaving. Sonny wants Em to take over from him, so would Will need to be transferred?
Rescue: Hi-Surf returns with new episodes on Monday, Jan. 20 at 9/8c on FOX.
