Now that 911 season 9 has ended, there are (hopefully) brighter days ahead for Eddie. Throughout the latest season, his life was put in serious danger multiple times, between the accident and kidnapping with Buck and nearly bleeding out after getting stabbed in the season finale. But fans have long been keeping their hopes up for a particular romance for Eddie.
For as long as Eddie has been a series regular on 911 (since season 2, to be exact), there have been fans who shipped Buck and Eddie as a couple. The series has even nodded toward the "Buddie" ship with Easter eggs and sly references, even going so far as addressing the elephant in the room — Buck's possible crush on his best friend — after he came out as bisexual.
While attending the Disney and ABC Upfronts, Ryan Guzman caught up with TV Line and was asked what the future might hold for Eddie's romantic future in 911 season 10. While he mentioned fans are still holding onto hope that Eddie will end up with Buck, Guzman doesn't seem to have much faith in a romantic partner lasting for his character. But can we get our hopes up yet?

Guzman didn't have an answer about what Eddie's idea romantic partner would be like or who that could be because "we have no clue where Eddie's head's at," according to the actor. Does that mean we don't know where his head's at in regards to who he wants to date or in a more general sense after what he went through in the finale? Only time will tell where his head's really at in season 10.
Guzman explained that it's hard for the writers to pair up Eddie for this reason: "Everybody likes Eddie single at this point in time, and those who don't like Eddie single want him to be with his best friend, so it's really hard to introduce anybody new into Eddie's life without some kind of backlash. I'm fearful for the woman who decides to be my love interest. She might not last long."
When the interviewer added a pointed "good luck," Guzman repeated the sentiment in good fun. Obviously, this isn't Guzman writing off any kind of romance for Eddie or staking claim in either direction. But it's also not a confirmation about anything happening with Buck beyond further exploring a new chapter in their friendship now that Buck's entering single fatherhood.
In the 911 season 9 finale, Buck decides become the official foster father for his biological son Theo following the death of his adoptive parents, who were Buck's friends, in a car accident. As a single father himself, Eddie will more than likely be helping Buck through this stage in his life, which is completely uncharted territory for the habitual bachelor, and it could bring them closer together as friends.
It's interesting that Guzman doesn't seem to have much faith in the female characters that could come into Eddie's life, but aside from the fans who want him to be with Buck, it's understandable to see why Guzman would feel this way. Eddie has a hard time dating simply because he prioritizes Christopher over everything else. And look at how his last relationship turned out.
911 exploring a storyline where Eddie dated a doppelgänger of his dead wife and driving Christopher away from him did a real number on Eddie. Guzman's right when he says fans like Eddie single, but he also deserves to find happiness if that's what he wants. Buck and Eddie have a good thing going with their friendship, and it doesn't sound like that's changing anytime soon.
