Matlock fans have been in quite the drought in the beginning of spring, thanks to the hit CBS legal drama being off the air for two weeks. Thanks to the network airing NCAA March Madness basketball games two weeks in a row, Matlock season 2 was pulled from the schedule. But the series returns with new episodes on April 2, and there will be a very special guest star on board.
While we're still reeling from the events of the previous episode, which saw Olympia's current trial going down in flames when Shae ended up getting arrested for tampering with the jury, it's never too soon to get excited about when the latest development could mean for Olympia's personal life. As previously announced, Skye P. Marshall's real-life husband Edwin Hodge is set to guest star!
Matlock season 2 welcomes Edwin Hodge as special guest star
People exclusively reported that Edwin Hodge makes his debut as Langston Wright in Matlock season 2 episode 12, which is titled "The Cavalry Isn't Coming" and airs on Thursday, April 2 at 9/8c on CBS. The outlet shared an exclusive preview of his first scene in the episode, and there are palpable sparks flying between Olympia and Langston the second they meet.
In the preview clip shared by People, Olympia prepares for a coffee date with Mr. Hodges (Justin Cornwell), who delays their date since he's waiting for his cousin. Langston finally arrives to retrieve car keys from Mr. Hodges, allowing him to meet Olympia. When they shake hands, it's like the world stops moving for Olympia. She's instantly smitten with Langston, which could make her date awkward.
In addition to making his debut appearance in season 2 episode 12, Edwin Hodge will also appear in Matlock season 2 episode 13, titled "The Future Is Night." The episode's synopsis teases that Hodge returns as Langston but doesn't reveal much about what to expect from his character or his connection with Olympia after their starry-eyed meeting in episode 12.
Here's the official synopsis for season 2 episode 13, which airs on April 9: "Olympia and the team take on a client, Vicki (Yara Martinez), who is fighting to gain full control of an AI afterlife software company she developed with her late sister. Also, Olympia tries to repair her relationship with Sarah and Matty gets a troubling call from Joey." No mention of Langston at all!
However, CBS released a number of new photos from season 2 episode 13, included below, that show Olympia and Langston meeting in her office with smiles on their faces. He might even bring her coffee. But another photo finds Langston on the stand with Olympia standing before him in lawyer mode. What brings Olympia to cross-examine the man she had instant feelings for?
Prior to teaming up together in Matlock, Marshall and Hodge previously worked together on the short-lived CBS medical drama series Good Sam. Sophia Bush starred in the series, but after its January 2022 premiere, CBS opted to cancel it after one season. Marshall and Hodge were both part of the main cast, playing Dr. Lex Trulie and Malcolm A. Kingsley respectively. The couple actually met back in 2020 while beginning work on Good Sam and ultimately got married in 2024.
