There is some bad and good news for St. Denis Medical fans. The show is now on its winter break, but it will return very soon.
The bad news is that there are no more new episodes of the fun medical comedy in 2024. The episode that aired on Tuesday, Dec. 17 was the last of 2024. Yes, we only just got into the new series, but this break is perfectly normal. There’s some great news about the series and it’s return, though.
Why is St. Denis Medical already on a break?
This break is standard for this time of year. The broadcast networks see a dip in the linear ratings in the run-up to Christmas and New Year celebrations, as people spend time watching movies with family or head out to local holiday-themed events. Rather than put St. Denis Medical at risk in terms of the ratings, it’s best for NBC to put the show on a break.
NBC isn’t the only network to do this. All the Big 5 networks are either wrapping up seasons or airing midseasons now.
When will St. Denis Medical return with new episodes?
In some great news, the show’s break is a short one, especially by NBC’s standards. While the likes of Chicago Fire and Found are on a six-week-or-so break, St. Denis Medical will only be off the air for a month. NBC has confirmed that St. Denis Medical will return with new episodes on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
This is the same date as fellow comedy Night Court. St. Denis Medical will continue to kick off Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
Will St. Denis Medical season 2 happen?
The show hasn’t yet been renewed, but we’re on the side that it will be. According to TV Series Finale, the linear ratings for the medical comedy have been strong—and that’s not surprising considering how much fun the series has been so far.
It ranks third out of all scripted shows (comedy and drama) on NBC in the demo. It’s the highest-rated comedy, and only behind Chicago Fire and Chicago Med out of all NBC scripted shows. This almost guarantees its renewal at the network.
