Former Station 19 star Jay Hayden has landed a recurring role on Fire Country for season 5.

Hayden will debut in episode 4, titled "Winners and Losers," airing Friday, October 30, at 9/8c, CBS' official synopsis reads, “As a mounting controversy puts Station 42 under scrutiny, Bode and the volunteer firefighters face a challenging test that leads them to an unexpected rescue.”

Hayden plays Mason, a man from a prominent family in Edgewater. He's described as "a confident and charismatic former pro baseball player and one-time teammate and pal of Bode (Max Thieriot) and Jake (Jordan Calloway). He returns home to convert his family’s old paper mill into a new business and reconnect with his old buddies, but he has a secret agenda that could either help or hurt the town.” TV Insider was the first to report the news.

Based on new photos released by CBS, Mason will also meet CJ. The two might strike up a friendship, or perhaps something more. Olivia Thirby, who plays CJ, told TVInsider that her character "CJ's pretty spicy, and she definitely finds her way into some interesting situations."

Hayden has starred in a variety of television and film roles, including stints on Criminal Minds and SEAL Team. However, he might be best known for his role on a popular Grey's Anatomy spinoff.

Station 19 followed the lives of the men and women working from a fire station in Seattle, Washington. As they navigated fire and medical emergencies, the first responders tried to balance their professional and personal lives. This often led to messy drama and raw, emotional moments.

Hayden starred as Travis Montgomery, a firefighter and queer activist who even dipped his toe into politics during the show. The show also featured Jaina Lee Ortiz, Grey Damon, Jason George, Boris Kodjoe, Danielle Savre, Barrett Doss, Merle Dandridge, and Okieriete Onaodowan.

Unfortunately, Station 19 was cancelled in 2023, despite it's cult-like fanbase and good ratings.

Following the cancellation, Hayden landed a recurring role on CBS's FBI: International. He debuted as a close friend of Wes, Jesse Lee Soffer's character. The two are good friends in real life, so their natural chemistry translated well on screen. It seemed like Hayden was on his way to a series regular role, but the show was cancelled before that could happen.

Now, the actor is bringing his talents to the latest season of Fire Country.

Fire Country airs every Friday at 9/8c on CBS.
