Even though SWAT had gone back into production in Santa Clarita after the Palisades and Eaton wildfires in Los Angeles, a new fire has meant production is once again postponed. Find out what we know about the ongoing situation.
As the fires are still being contained, more fires have erupted in the Los Angeles area, one in particular closest to Santa Clarita. The Hughes Fire broke out near the Castaic Lake area on Wednesday, Jan. 22. This brought production to a halt as the fire led to over 30,000 people being evacuated from the area.
The production for SWAT is also expected to be on pause Thursday, Jan. 23. So far, there is no information on when the show will go back to filming. However, this shouldn’t affect the schedule for the show’s return, which is set for Friday, Jan. 31.
Does the pause in production mean that we will likely see a shorter season? Depending on how many episodes are still left to be filmed, they may need to cut some episodes in order to finish the season in time for the end of the television season. The series is supposed to have 22 episodes for season 8 and episode 9 will be the midseason premiere.
Will the pauses in production affect the rest of SWAT season 8?
However, this shouldn’t affect the return of episodes, one of which will be next week. The episode in question will continue the arc involving someone bent on revenge for someone at 20-Squad. Most likely it will be Hondo who is the target, but that doesn’t mean someone on the team won’t possibly be collateral damage. As of right now, there is still not a lot of information on the episode, other than the revenge arc and a secondary one involving SWAT Academy.
Tan and Deacon will still have different opinions on how SWAT Academy is being run. Deacon seems to have a hard time with change so hopefully the two will come to an understanding on the best course for the future of the academy under Tan’s watchful eye.
While we do not know for sure which episode they are in the middle of filming, hopefully they are far enough along that we shouldn’t see a huge delay in the airing of episodes or how many will make it to the end of the 2024-2025 television season.
Until the show returns, you can also catch previous episodes streaming on Paramount+.
