Since the second season of the NBC crime drama The Hunting Party finished airing in May, fans have been hit with bad news after bad news. First came the update that the series remained in limbo admid the network's Upfronts presentation, and then the axe finally fell and made the show's cancellation official. After two seasons, NBC canceled the series, much to fans' disappointment.

But the cancellation came with some silver linings that seemingly pointed to hope that the show might have a chance to continue. When the first season dropped on Netflix, The Hunting Party became an instant hit on the streamer, shooting up the daily Top 10 ranking and bringing in upwards of 1.2 billion minutes viewed. Getting a second look is huge for a struggling series.

In addition to the show's much-needed success on Netflix, Universal Television shared its intention to shop the series to other outlets, including streaming services and networks, hoping that The Hunting Party can find a new home for season 3. How close are we to that goal becoming a reality? A new update suggests that, though we're not out of the woods, we're still in the game.

The Hunting Party season 3 still looking for new home

Answering a fan's question for his Matt's Inside Line newsletter, Matt Webb Mitovich gave some insight on the status of The Hunting Party season 3's hunt for a new home. According to Mitovich, there's no official word on which streamers or networks are in the running, but the show remains in the process of being shopped around in the hopes of striking a resurrection deal.

As he explained in the newsletter, "A source close to production assured me this morning that the serial killer drama is 'definitely exploring' options for a new home, though it is 'too early' to report anything."

Unfortunately, sometimes these kinds of deals can move slowly. To put things into perspective, a full month still hasn't elapsed since NBC announced the show's cancellation. As much as we want these things to happen at the snap of our fingers, there can be complicated red tape in the background that prevents deals from snapping into place right away.

Of course, there are always exceptions, but it's unclear which avenues The Hunting Party will seriously explore for its new home. For fans, the most obvious place to land would be Netflix considering it's already a proven success for the streamer. There's already an established audience that has shown that they will watch the series when it drops new episodes.

Netflix has a great track record of saving literally underrated fan-favorite series from cancellation. Lucifer and Manifest, the latter also starring The Hunting Party lead Melissa Roxburgh, being two of the biggest examples. But the streamer also also saved series like You, Cobra Kai, Designated Survivor, Girls5eva, The Hunting Wives, among a few others over the years.

While Universal Television could be looking to keep the show in-house and move it to Peacock, it's likely that kind of quick move could have been ironed out along with the show's cancellation. For now, we'll have to remain patient and hope that any conversations being had with Netflix or other outlets will result in some good news very, very soon. Until then, keep watching the show to send a message!
