After what seemed like years since The Rookie wrapped up season 6 with a gripping and powerful finale, The Rookie will return tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 7, with season 7 on ABC!

The season 7 premiere, "The Shot," will immediately pick up the season 6 finale left off, with an injured Officer John Nolan returning to work. He's eager to take down the LA crime with his team, but given how two convicts escaped the federal prison system, he'll have much to handle. With one of the convicts being his wife's ex-husband, the danger hits home, and Nolan must do what he can to protect Bailey and himself.

Here's what to expect in The Rookie season 7 premiere, "The Shot"

"The Shot" will finally introduce us to the new rookies, Miles and Seth, and soon they learn that LA isn't the glitz and glamour the city is advertised as. The predicament could lead to the two in precarious situations, despite the fact that Miles was a policeman in his home state of Texas prior to relocation to the LAPD.

In the episode's synopsis below, we learn more what "The Shot" entails:

"Now recovering from a gunshot wound and feeling the effects of his age, John and the team welcome two new rookies and continue the hunt for two dangerous inmates with very personal vendettas following their prison escape."

Aside from meeting Miles and Seth, we'll also meet Mickey, portrayed by The 100's Ricky Whittle. As a fan of the post-apocalyptic drama, I'm excited of what Whittle will bring to The Rookie's fast-paced universe and whether he'll bring his survival skills into his character.

Whittle will also be the second The 100 alum to appear on the show, with the first being Bob Morley as Half-Life in the season 3 finale.

Whittle uploaded a clip of his character to his Instagram page on Friday, Jan. 3. While Whittle didn't give a detailed description, Mickey convinced us he's a mechanic and works at a garage. Until we see Mickey in action tonight, we can't tell if he's a criminal or not and whether he has connections to the escaped convicts.

Additionally, Chenford will be a hot topic in the premiere and throughout the season. The couple has some issues that need to be addressed and settled before they can ignite their relationship. The fate of it depends on Tim's therapy session and what he must do in order to win Lucy back.

In an interview with Alexi Hawley for TVLine, the creator of the series mentions that while Tim knows what he did was wrong, he doesn't know the why factor. Hopefully, Tim and Lucy can start over until he reaches that point in the journey.

What time will The Rookie be on tonight?

You can tune in to The Rookie at its new time at 10/9c on ABC. It will follow new episodes of Will Trent and High Potential.

If you can't make it to the live premiere, then you can stream it the next day on Hulu.
