It’s been nearly a decade since The Vampire Diaries ended its run, but fans still love The CW's hit drama. Adapting the popular novels, the saga focused on Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), who becomes involved in a love triangle with vampire brother Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder). Their steamy romances helped make the show a long-running smash success.

According to Deadline, Dobrev and Wesley will reunite for the new Hulu series You Deserve to Know. The project comes from Alex Cooper's Unwell and Aaron Kaplan's Kapital Entertainment and is seemingly being pushed quickly.

Written by Brian Tanen and based on the 2025 novel by Aggie Blum Thompson, You Deserve to Know "follows three suburban couples — next-door neighbors and best friends. When one of their husbands is murdered, a shocking trail of secrets is revealed, and their friendship cracks wide open."

Dobrev and Wesley play Gwen and Scott, “two neighbors on opposite sides of a murder investigation, leading them on a collision course.”

Kaplan has experience working with both actors before. He developed the short-lived 2019 CBS comedy Fam, which starred Dobrev as a woman whose seemingly perfect life is thrown when her wild half-sister and father move in with her. Kaplan also worked with Wesley in the second season of the CBS All Access (not Paramount+) anthology series Tell Me a Story.

Since the end of Vampire Diaries, Dobrev and Wesley have both kept busy. Dobrev has mostly focused on movies from blockbusters such as XXX: The Return of Xander Cage to Sick Girl, Reunion, and the new release The Get Out. This will mark her first TV role since Fam was canceled.

Besides movie work, Wesley has become more notable for playing a young James T. Kirk on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which will premiere its fourth season in July. There are also rumors of a possible new series focusing on Kirk’s first years as captain of the Enterprise.

No doubt, Kaplan felt this was a great idea to have Dobrev and Wesley reunite for this series. Not having them play spouses is probably the best move, as that would be a bit too close to their The Vampire Diaries roles. Instead, putting them on opposite sides can allow more sparks to fly with the possibility that they somehow hook up after all. It’s likely the script will put in some nods to their past connection to reward fans.

This is still in development and much can change, but seeing Dobrev and Wesley share the screen again should be a delight to The Vampire Diaries fans old and new!
