Over the last four seasons, we've watched the characters on Fire Country deal with physical and emotional obstacles in their lives. And while the road has been rough, many of them have found ways to persevere. For instance, Bode is out of jail and thriving at Station 42. Jake reconnected with his brother and recently got married; Sharon is getting back into the dating scene after losing Vince; and Manny is finding ways to balance his personal life with his new leadership role at 42.
But there is one character who seems to be stuck in one place: Eve.
Don't get us wrong, Eve has had significant life changes over the years. For example, in season 4, she almost single-handedly revamped Three Rock after it was shut down. She now mentors the young men who serve there and has seen some success. Still, we can't help but feel like something is missing.
Fire Country needs to better utilize Eve
Eve is a great character. She's mature and focused. She cares deeply about the people around her and has been a great support system for the Leones. Most importantly, Eve has a lot of potential. She stepped up to the plate when Three Rock needed a new leader and since then has been finding new ways to make the camp productive. But she's been in a stasis for a little while now.
Eve hasn't had any challenges. Outside of revamping Three Rock, the only other big storyline she had was when she temporarily took over her father's farm. But most of that was offscreen. Now, her days consist mostly of wrangling a group of unruly teenagers who need to learn responsibility and emotional regulation. When she's not doing that, Eve is supporting one of her friends, which, while noble, shouldn't be her only role.
Fire Country needs to give Eve a storyline outside of Three Rock. Jules Latimer is a talented actress and has already shown that she can do a lot with heavier material. As an audience, we deserve to see more of that on screen.
It would also be nice if Eve had more love interests. Her relationship with Francine fizzled out in season 4 because of a dispute over kids, which is fine because the two didn't have much chemistry anyway. But Eve deserves to be loved the way she loves others: with passion. Latimer has said herself that she would love for Eve to explore in her dating life and have some fun. And we second that notion.
The writers of Fire Country created a great character with Eve; it's time they utilized her more.
