Tim Allen has been a fixture on the big and small screen for over 30 years and counting, but one of his biggest television roles will soon be departing Netflix. The actor, who currently stars in the ABC sitcom Shifting Gears alongside Kat Dennings, got his start in TV on the same network in the beloved '90s classic Home Improvement. It's your last call to binge-watch the hit sitcom.
If you have been longing for a rewatch of Home Improvement, Tim "The Toolman" Taylor will be gathering his tools and heading out of Netflix in the United States on August 1, 2026. All eight seasons, which totals to 204 episodes, will be removed from Netflix on that date, making the final day to watch the sitcom on the streamer Friday, July 31. You'd better hurry!
Home Improvement leaving Netflix in August 2026
Thankfully, Home Improvement remains available to stream on Hulu, as well as Hulu on Disney+ with a bundle subscription. If you happen to be in the middle of a binge-watch of the series on Netflix, don't forget where you left off and you can hop over to Hulu or Disney+ and pick up with your watch there. After all, there's no stopping the need for nostalgia whenever the mood strikes.
Home Improvement was added to Netflix in the United States back in February 2025 as part of a temporary streaming deal with Disney for a handful of some of the company's most popular titles, like This Is Us, The Resident, Lost, How I Met Your Mother, and more. Each of the Disney titles added to Netflix for this deal had an 18-month streaming run before removal, and the Toolman's time is up.
After premiering on ABC in 1991, Home Improvement became one of the most popular and defining sitcoms of the '90s, ultimately concluding its run in 1999. For those of us who grew up in the '90s, the series was a staple during its original run and through syndication. Everyone knew what time it was when we heard that distinctive Tim Taylor grunt in the opening credits.
Years after Home Improvement ended, Allen returned to ABC in the sitcom Last Man Standing, which aired for six seasons on the network before its cancellation and ultimate revival on Fox from 2018 to 2021. Regardless, the actor didn't hold a grudge against the network and stars in Shifting Gears, which is going into its third season and is set to premiere on ABC in 2027.
Making sure to keep fans nostalgic, Allen hosted a Home Improvement reunion on Shifting Gears in the season premiere, as stars Patricia Richardson, Richard Karn, and Debbe Dunning made a small appearance as members of Allen's character Matt's grief group. If that wasn't enough to make you want to start the iconic sitcom from the beginning, maybe its impending Netflix removal will.
From now on, you'll have to watch the series on Hulu, where you can also catch up on both seasons of ABC's Shifting Gears.
