Tracker season 4 is coming with more thrills and excitement, but it also has to do more with one particular character!
Tracker has a pretty small cast, as it’s mostly about Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley) traveling the country to aid folks in need. The show had a small pack of helpers, but three (Robin Weigert, Abby McEnany, and Eric Grasie) were all gone by the midpoint of season 2. That’s left just Reenie Greene (Fiona Rene), Colter’s capable lawyer, helped by hacker Randy (Chris Lee).
Another face added in season 3 was Melanie “Mel” Day (Cassady McClincy), a new assistant for Reenie. She impressed Reenie by coming to her interview prepared with a comprehensive research into it and expressing a passion for the law. She was motivated by her mother’s murder when Mel was 16, and Reenie was taken by her energy to hire her.
Since then, Mel has popped in and out of storylines, bantering with Reenie, helping her investigate her own cases, and even some bantering with Randy. That hasn’t been bad, yet it’s hopeful that season 4 may give her a lot more direction and let her enjoy more time in the spotlight.

What can be done with Mel in Tracker season 4?
There was an air of mystery about Mel when she debuted, especially since one of her first questions was about Reenie’s relationship with Colter. That prompted some fans to theorize that Mel could have been sent as a spy by an enemy of Colter’s or that she had her own ulterior motives. So far, nothing has come from that as Mel has settled into the role of Reenie’s aide.
It could be that Mel still has some secret hanging over her. A logical idea is that she wants Colter to help her find out who killed her mother and see justice done. That could bring up conflict with Reenie feeling Mel was using her all along just for Colter rather than just openly asking for help. Mel would have to work harder to win back Reenie’s trust.
There could be a different personal connection, such as Mel’s father somehow connected to either Colter or his father and the mysterious group behind the latter’s death. A wild idea could be that Mel was once part of the Chrono Stasis program, using teenagers for their special talents. Perhaps she escaped and was trying to find her own path.
It might be simpler to stick to the idea that Mel is just who she says she is: an eager young attorney wanting to learn from Reenie. Even then, the character could use some more screen time and actual plot lines rather than being at Reenie’s desk.
Her banter with Randy is promising, as, even if not romantic, the duo could hit it off as friends. It’d be fun to see them discuss the Colter-Reenie dynamic and take bets on if it’ll ever become romantic. Off that, seeing Colter and Mel working together on a case could be exciting, with Mel in the field and proving herself more capable than expected.
However it goes, it seems strange to introduce a promising character like Mel and do almost nothing with her. Hopefully, Tracker season 4 gives her more of a chance to be in the spotlight, shine a light on her past, and make her a bigger part of an already fun show.
