Dedication cards are important ways for TV shows to honor those close to them. Grey’s Anatomy season 21, episode 6 did that with a dedication to Daniel K. Hoh.
There are times that we’ll know who the person is immediately. We’ll remember a report about their death, or there may have been something in the episode to commemorate the passing as well. There are times that the dedications are a little more personal to the show, and they may be people fans know less. That doesn’t mean they weren’t important.
Daniel K. Hoh was a writer on Station 19
Hoh was an important part of the Grey’s Anatomy family. He served as a Station 19 writer and executive story editor for multiple years, bringing his own medical expertise to the storylines. Yes, he was a real-life physician, who was able to consult as well as write.
It’s often difficult to make dramatic saves look and feel real. That is something Hoh was able to bring to the series to ensure it was authentic.
Deadline reported that Hoh passed away on Oct. 11, 2024. He was just 45, and he had fought multiple myeloma before his death. He was passionate about his work.
It’s easy to overlook some of the deaths that happen to those behind the scenes. They aren’t on our screens enough for us to give them the credit where it’s due, and that was certainly the case with Hoh. He made sure that the stories were authentic (as much as possible as there’s always a dramatic element), and his work will be missed.
He also worked as a doctor at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in the ER. He cared for his patients and brought empathy to the field.
Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC. Catch up the following day on Hulu.
