Another season of The Masked Singer brings time for guessing. Group B in season 13 is packed with some great celebrities and clue packages, and we’re breaking one of them down right now. It’s all about Griffin.
The panelists think they have an idea of who is under the mask. Rita Ora couldn’t decide between Matthew Lilliard and Freddie Prinze Jr. due to the scary movie connection, while Jenny guessed David Arquette for a similar reason. The horror connection may be something, but there was a line in the clue package that gave me a clue.
Could Griffin by a Dawson’s Creek star?
The “School’s Out” clue certainly initially seems to connect to a Saved By the Bell star, and you may think Mark-Paul Gosselaar at first. To be honest, there are a couple of other clues that seem to connect to him, such as his fast rise to fame and the police badge. Right now, Gosselaar plays the villainous Sir in Found.
However, my suspicion is on Dawson’s Creek’s James Van Der Beek. There are a couple of reasons for this, and the police badge is one of them. He was in CSI: Cyber, which is something that a lot of people forget because that show wasn’t one of the most popular ones in the CSI franchise. He was also a villain in Criminal Minds, connecting him to the police badge—he went up against Reid during a harrowing episode.
The “School’s Out” clue could link to his Dawson’s Creek clue. After all, that was a high school drama series. Just keep in mind that sometimes the clues are put in there as red herrings, and that could be the case here. I think the use of the VHS tape was a great one, as I immediately thought “scary movie” rather than horror movie, and that led to Van Der Beek’s appearance in Scary Movie.
The clue that convinces me that Griffin is James Van Der Beek is the line, "I mean, a lady even took dirt off my car and said she'd take it home to her children." Van Der Beek did have a situation where a woman literally took some dirt off his car.
There was another line: “I'm only human. And I was reminded of that recently." Sadly, Van Der Beek has recently been diagnosed of colorectal cancer, and it’s a battle that he keeps fighting hard.
Plus, his name includes “Beek,” as in “beak” for the Griffin.
The Masked Singer airs on Wednesdays at 8/7c on FOX.
