Cause of Death: After being bitten by Alpha Ennis, Paige’s body rejects the bite. Instead of transforming into a werewolf, the bite begins to slowly kill Paige. Seeing the love of his life suffering and in agony, Derek fights through his tears to break her neck and end her pain.
In Memoriam: Okay, so perhaps we never really had the chance to get to know Paige on a large-scale but there is no denying that her story played a key role in the show – even if she only appeared in one episode. Paige was essentially Derek’s Allison as she was the girl who knocked the air out of him and had him swept up in a whirlwind romance. Like Scott, Derek too feared losing his love due to his status as a werewolf but unfortunately Derek didn’t have the positive influences around him that Scott did.
Giving into Peter’s plan, Derek ultimately set the stage for having to be the one to take the life of the girl who was his entire world. It was brutal to watch young Derek be forced to end her life and that connection was the source of our heartbreak over a character whose death would have otherwise been forgotten.
