According to executive producer Ken Olin, July 11 is the beginning of the end of the wait for This Is Us season 2.

This Is Us has been off the air since March and, as much as we should be prepared for these kind of intra-season breaks, we’re having a really hard time being patient. Especially with all the breadcrumbs and teasers we’re getting for This Is Us season 2 as part of the show’s Emmy campaigns.

While we still don’t have a definite return date — smart money is on Tuesday September 19 — we do know that the show returns to production July 11. So, after a generous Fourth of July holiday, all our favorite This Is Us actors will be back on set, bringing the trials, tribulations and tears of the Pearson family to life.

Olin shared that date at ATX TV Festival, during a panel in which he and NBC Entertainment executive Jennifer Salke also shared that writer and creator Dan Fogelman was busy at work to perfect the first ten consecutive episodes. After NBC decided to keep This Is Us on Tuesdays nights to avoid conflict with the NFL, and consequently a two month break, the pressure was on Fogelman to produce ten episodes straight.

Fogelman may be stressed — no pressure, right? — but we’re not particularly worried. The team behind This Is Us has shown themselves to be exceptional at their work, even if they claim “make America cry” is not in the job description.

If you’re in L.A. or the surrounding area — where This Is Us recreates Pittsburgh and New York — mark July 11 and get your sleuthing gear together. We’re all counting on you to provide teasers and totally-out-of-context sightings to sustain us through September.
