All across the world there are megalithic structures allegedly created by ancient cultures. Ancient Aliens explores the theory that sound may have been used for levitation.

According to Ancient Aliens, the Temples of Jupiter in Lebanon have three of the largest monolithic stones in the world, each weighing approximately 2,000,000 lbs. Similarly, there are precisely cut blocks in Puma Punku, Bolivia that weigh hundreds of tons. Some of the stones in the pyramids in Giza weigh as much as 15 tons. Ancient Aliens attempts to tie all these structures, as well as others from across the globe, together into a single theory.

First and foremost, one expert is quoted as saying that cranes and hydraulic jacks for anything over 50 ton boulders would be required with modern day technology. Additionally, according to some ancient legends, particularly the ones at Stonehenge and Puma Punku, the massive stones were moved into place via levitation or being “floated” into place. Naturally, Ancient Aliens leverages this combination of information and legend to question the movement of all these stones. They posit a very simple theory:

It’s worth noting that Ancient Aliens resident logo/figurehead, Giorgio Tsoukalos has admitted to being somewhat incorrect about his previous Puma Punku beliefs. Additionally, there is a rather exhaustive video online that purports to refute much of the data presented in this episode.

Current technology has proven levitation is possible.

No, this is not some lame David Blane optical illusion or trick (BTW – this is the best David Blane video). The University of Bristol in England has created a handheld device with an array of speakers that can levitate light materials with sound alone. Ancient Aliens suggests this is technology in its infancy, and the ancient cultures were given the full details of this technology by extraterrestrials. Naturally, the technology is extended to various locations around the world.

Discovering how and why the blocks were moved is a somewhat recursive topic for Ancient Aliens. In fact, it’s been thoroughly discussed before.

Archaeoacoustics is the newest theory.

Ancient Aliens suggests aliens utilized the power of sound waves to accomplish amazing feats that defy technology. By chanting mantras they may have connected to a higher plane or mimicked their gods. Some ancient structures may have even been built to echo specific sound waves.

To illustrate the ability of sound waves, Ancient Aliens had a doctor conduct an electroencephalogram (EEG). This EEG analyzes the brain 256 times a second, utilizing multiple frequencies from 90 to 120Hz in random order. Furthermore, the sounds are delivered for specific periods of time to create similar data points. The results of the test indicate that a specific frequency (110Hz) affects the parietal area, which relates to visual, spatial, and expression.

Malta

The labyrinths of Malta date back nearly 6000 years. Similar to human-sized ant farms, these chiseled out structures are under the island and are a great mystery. Perhaps the most famous is the communal burial site called Hal-Saflieni Hypogeum. Discovered in 1902, the Hypogeum has three major levels and originally had over 7000 skeletons in it. According to a National Geographic article in 1920, many of the skeletons had elongated skulls. Unfortunate vandalism has resulted in very little of the skulls surviving, but out of the 11 that exist, at least one possesses characteristics not found in all human skulls. The elongated skull has often been tied to alien encounters. Additionally, a British consulate worker named Lois Jessup authored a bizarre report in which she claims to have seen a group of 20 white-haired giants while visiting the depths of the Hypogeum.

More important to the current archaeoacoustic hypothesis, however, is the sound at the Hypogeum. For example, a mysterious location within the Hypogeum called the Oracle Room resonates a 110Hz frequency that can be physically felt. Ancient Aliens suggest this physical link to sound may have alien influence.

Ireland

At the prehistoric Newgrange monument in Ireland, Giorgio Tsoukalos went to meet with Paul Devereux, an archeoacoustic expert who has been studying the effects of sound resonance across the globe for several years. Upon testing the Newgrange location, he discovers a 110Hz similar to that of the Hypogeum. Both hear and feel the sound, and Giorgio’s mind is blown.

India

The Vijayanagara ancient ruins in Hampi, India may be directly linked audibly to a connection between humans and extraterrestrials. In the Vittala temple complex within the ruins, there is a stage pavilion that has several pillars. Those pillars were constructed in such a way that, when tapped, emit a sound like so many drums. In fact, the 56 pillars are said to be individually tuned to one of the seven notes of the Saregama (an ancient Sanskrit musical scale). According to some experts – one with an amazing handlebar mustache that somehow doesn’t minimize his legitimacy – music may have a more profound purpose than traditionally believed.

Furthermore, the Hindu gods Vishnu and Shiva are unequivocally linked to sound. In fact, Vishnu is often seen holding a conch shell, and Shiva is seen holding a double-sided drum. Both instruments are said to produce the “Om” sound, and are allegedly intended to sound the same. Om is mentioned in ancient Sanskrit texts written over 3000 years ago, and may reflect the manner in which we can audibly communicate with the gods.

Tsoukalos takes it a step further:

"“Om is the frequency of all vowels combined into one. [It] is the frequency of the universe.”"

The leftovers

As with every episode of Ancient Aliens, there is a bunch of extra data thrown in to muddy the waters. Most of the time it doesn’t get enough attention to fully warrant a mention. But, hey, the show has to be an hour-long. There is something about Cambodia, New Mexico, and a secret technological base at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. The latter bit of data, however, sounds far too similar to the plot of Abyss to be taken seriously.

In summary, this episode of Ancient Aliens was light on the confirmation of various beliefs. The theory of this episode is not fully realized. Is sound the way we can communicate with aliens? Ancient Alien theorists say, “Yes.”
