The Sinner adds a new character to the mix and provides some more twists.

More from Hidden Remote

The first scene of this week’s episode is a brief flashback to Mason and Cora in bed after waking up to realize that their son slept through the whole night. From there, we quickly jump back into the school bus crime scene. No new information is given really so it’s more to just let you know that they’ve dug up the some of the body.

Detective Farmer (Joanna Adler) is a new face this episode and she’s working on the new case with the Jane Doe they found. She immediately sends off an interesting vibe. She’s trying to connect with Cora, but it doesn’t come off quite as genuine as I think she wants it to. She questions if Ambrose is too close to the initial murder case to be working on the second one. She’s a bit more harsh on Cora and it’s a stark difference from how Ambrose interacts with her.

The flashback with Cora and her sister jump quite a bit in time this episode, too. Cora is older, has a job, and is stealing money from her dates. Initially, all we know is that Cora is saving up money so she can get her sister out of the house. We see the sisters caring even more about each other. It’s even to the point where Phoebe is in hysterics because Cora didn’t answer her phone. While I think it’s a bit drastic to think Cora died, they did mention the guy on the dating site looking creepy earlier to lead into that.

Cora’s public defender brings her an offer of 20 years for both murders. I found this odd because she hadn’t even been charged with the second murder, yet they were offering her a deal. They hadn’t even identified the body, either, so that really feels a bit rushed. Even Detective Ambrose points that out later in the episode.

Detective Ambrose goes to visit the woman who filed a wrongful termination suit against the Beverwyck Club. She tells him what happened and at the moment, you know something shady is definitely going on there. With him, we also get another awkward therapy scene and his wife already wants him out of the house again. These aren’t the most exciting scenes, but they show how out of touch he seems to be with everyone who isn’t involved in the case. Ignoring his problems at home, he keeps digging and finds the masks while Farmer is trying to get Cora to take a deal.

In the life J.D., his house is raided and the girlfriend claims the drugs are all hers. Later, we see him beat up Mason’s dad with a bat and leave. Since the moment we met him something has felt off about him, aside from him being a drug dealer. In another flashback, we see how he meets Cora and when she first sees Maddie. We see the first night they spent together, but there’s no indication if she remembers that night.

The bombshell that’s dropped in this episode comes at the end. The blood on the blanket that the body was wrapped in is Cora’s. Other than that, we see Mason going to go confront J.D., but don’t quite get to it yet. This show continues to add new twists to it each week. You think things are getting closer to making sense, until they throw another new fact in to throw it all out the window. This episode is a solid one and you’ll be left just wanting to know what else will pop up in the remaining three episodes.
