About a Girl dives into some deep waters on The Orville, but there is still time for humor.

Who would have thought within the first five episodes of The Orville there would be deep philosophical debates about sex changes. Honestly, the episode’s disguise of aliens and inter-planetary policies serves well when considering the deeply dividing topic. It’s part of what has made Seth MacFarlane such a smart comedy writer in the past, and it works once more.

Even with the very serious nature of the episode, there is still a place for humor. Fans of MacFarlane will appreciate the blend of comedy and social commentary with a little satire mixed in.

There’s sexual innuendo, board game arguments, inter-species advances and music quotes. There’s something for everyone.

Two, quickie honorable mentions:

  1. Commander Kelly Grayson (Adrianne Palicki) says the Moclans compare being female to having chronic diarrhea.
  2. Captain Ed Mercer (MacFarlane) says having a vagina doesn’t give you a lisp, but then says, “Depends on how you use it.”

Without further ado, here are the four funniest parts of About a Girl.
