This Is Us revealed how Jack died in the Season 2 premiere, but when will we find out everything about the show’s biggest mystery?

Last night’s season premiere of This Is Us finally revealed how Jack died, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Learning how he died was a piece of the puzzle, but now it’s time to settle into the context of his death and learn the details leading up to it.

There are so many questions we have about Jack’s death, but before we continue any further we need to make sure you’re aware that massive spoilers lie ahead. If you aren’t all caught up on This Is Us then do it and then come back.

Alright, here we go.

In the season premiere, we learned that Jack died in a house fire at the Pearson’s residence. We didn’t see the death scene, rather we saw Rebecca pulling up to the burned-out remnants of the Pearson’s house.

Despite knowing how he died, we still have questions about the circumstances of his death.

This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman didn’t say what episode we learn everything but rather said it will be a gradual peeling of an onion as far as getting the full scope and context of Jack’s death and what it means.

"In order to fully understand that year of their life, you don’t just do it one episode. You have to understand where they’re all at at time period, what had happened in the marriage, what was happening with those kids, what was happening with those kids vis a vis their father, before they lost him, that frames these 37-year-old people we’re seeing. Once we’ve done that, then we’ll see everything we need to know about Jack. And it will be this season."

This makes sense, and it’s a fantastic move. The biggest mystery of the first season was how Jack died and now that we’ve found that out it’s time to make it really mean something. Like Fogelman said, you cannot do that in one episode and to spread it out throughout the season is the best way to really make sure the picture is painted as detailed as possible.

Needless to say, Jack’s death is going to continue to loom large over the entire season and we’re going to learn just what a massive impact Jack’s death has on the Big Three.
