Since its inception in the year 1999, Family Guy has managed to survive being kicked off the air twice, some pretty nasty lawsuits, an extraordinary amount of controversy and the list goes on. Despite all of this, the series is still going strong after 18 years and I must say, that deserves some type of respect. The good news is that if you’re a die-hard Family Guy fanatic, you can look forward to a brand new season of the show.
FYI, the season premiere aired on October 1. If you didn’t catch it, the episode is centered around the Griffin family desperately trying to win an Emmy and of course making fun of other well-known TV shows like Modern Family and Mr. Robot... Chicken. Personally, I thought this episode was great.
As for other people’s’ opinions about the episode and any Family Guy episode after 2007? Well, I don’t think they share the same perception as me. As with most TV shows or just about anything nowadays, nostalgia beats modern-day entertainment 9 times out of 10. In other words, Family Guy just isn’t what it use to be and given its long history, it isn’t hard to see why. There’s only so many ideas a writer can have before they simply run out. There is only so much character development a character can be given before whatever they say sounds boring, random or just plain stupid.
Sure, some things are in dire need of change. For example, Peter used to be just like you and the next guy. He’d screw up, acknowledge his mistake and repeat this process almost every episode. This was the old Peter. This was the Peter Griffin everyone knows and loves. In newer episodes, we don’t see this Peter. Instead, we get someone who is incompetent and incapable of understanding most things toddlers would think is a piece of cake. I’m sure no one would mind if he said something a bit random every now and then, but for it to happen all the time is annoying, to say the least.

Since I’ve covered the good and the bad, I guess it’s now time to tackle the ugly truth. Despite all its flaws, I’d bet that most people would hate for this to be the final season of Family Guy. The way I see it, its kind of like a bad marriage that you just can’t seem to walk away from. You tell the wife or the husband that you’re fed up and you’ve had enough, but when you finally divorce them, you spend the better part of two weeks crying in your bathroom wishing things could’ve been different.
