Both the Philadelphia Eagles and Carolina Panthers did not make the playoffs last season, but they are looking to change things this season. Both teams bring solid offenses and defenses making this a game to watch.
The Eagles took the opening possession and drove down to the Panthers 35 when Carson Wentz was sacked and turned it over. Julius Peppers forced the action while Kawaan Short recovered the loose ball. Philadelphia would take over after they kept Carolina to a three-and-out, and drove to the Panthers 32 where the defense eventually held. A Jake Elliot field goal put the Eagles up 3-0 with just over seven minutes remaining in the first quarter.

After an Eagles punt, Carolina took over at their own nine-yard line. However, Newton would throw a pick to Rasul Douglas taking it to the Panthers 12. The Carolina defense stiffened up and forced a fourth and one from the Panthers three. Head coach Lane Johnson decided to go for it and was successful with a Wentz dive. He would find Zach Ertz a play later for the touchdown.
Second Half
The opening drive in the second-half would show Newton throwing his second interception. Two plays later Wentz would find his tight end Ertz once again from 17-yards away. Philadelphia didn’t start out well in their next position. They would have to face a second down and twenty-five after losing six-yards on a Kenyon Barner running play. Then, Stefen Wisniewski was spotted for holding. They made up the ground. First, Barner gained nine-yards on a pass, then wide receiver Mack Hollins was good for 20-yards and the first down.
Following that play to Hollins, Wentz spotted Alshon Jeffery for a gain of 37 putting the ball at Carolina’s 24-yard line. Two plays later, Wentz hit receiver Nelson Agholor who raced down the sidelines for the score and a 28-16 lead with 14:55 left in the fourth.
Cam Newton would fight back right away. On the next drive, Newton would take the ball from his own 25-yard line and relatively easy get the Panthers down the field. Facing third down just thrice in the 13-plays it took to score. On first down from the one, Newton would spot Christian McCaffrey in the end zone for the score.
Both defenses took it the rest of the way. Newton would throw an interception, his third of the game with just over three minutes. They would hold Philadelphia to a three-and-out. However, on their next possession, Carolina would run out of chances and on fourth down, not convert. Ending the game.
