Many This Is Us fans have been wondering if that’s really Chrissy Metz singing on the show, and now we finally have an answer.

One of the biggest storylines on This Is Us so far this season has been Kate and her dream of becoming a singer. We’ve learned that her dream has sort of been smothered over the years by Rebecca, not out of anything other than love but perhaps at times too much love.

Her mother being overly critical of her has sort of stunted Kate’s growth as a singer, but we’re seeing her come into her own this season. That has meant a lot of singing for actress Chrissy Metz, and many fans are wondering if that’s really her singing on the show.

Sometimes when actors on shows have to sing, they’re dubbed over in post-production with an audio track. This is so actors who can’t really belt out a tune in the right key won’t have to be held back on the job because of one requirement not being met.

As it turns out — and it should be a shock to no one — that’s indeed Chrissy Metz’s real singing voice on the show.

There are now dubs, no corrections, and no substitutions.

“Like Kate, I never really was encouraged to sing but always wanted to, so it’s like my dreams are really coming true and to potentially sing with my [TV] mom Mandy Moore would be incredible,” Metz said over the summer about singing on the show. “I think music is such a beautiful art form and it’s so healing.”

Metz was nominated for an Emmy this past year for her role as Kate on This Is Us, and although she didn’t win this time around she is clearly setting u p a good case for next year. From phenomenal acting to an incredible singing voice, it’s hard to think of something Metz can’t do.
