Ranking the different Castiels in Supernatural

Naomi’s pet

During season 8, Castiel was kidnapped by Naomi and forced to do her bidding. One of the things she wanted was for him to kill Dean, forcing him to kill his best friend over and over again. The whole storyline was awful for fans, as they watched their angel turn into a mindless solider. To make it worse, it looked like the Winchesters would never learn the truth of what was happening.

The only reason this version of Castiel isn’t at the bottom is because Cass broke the mind control himself. In the end, he couldn’t kill Dean despite Naomi pushing him to carry out the deed. It helped to further the bond between the two.

Metatron’s pet

Close behind Naomi’s pet is the version of Castiel that became Metatron’s pet. He took steps to close the gates of Heaven, believing that he was doing the best thing. In fact, we all hoped he was doing something good for the world, but had our doubts when it came to the death of a nephilim.

Castiel later found out that he was being manipulated by Metatron. This wasn’t through mind control but through his hopes to do something good for the world. While losing his grace wasn’t a good thing, Human Castiel was certainly one of the best versions of his character.
