Atlanta concluded all the way back in November 2016, and whilst Donald Glover has been busy with shooting Solo: A Star Wars Story and his Childish Gambino alter ego, he still has had time to work on a second season to the much-lauded Atlanta. During the 2018 Winter Television Critics Association press event, Donald Glover and his brother Stephen revealed new details about season two.

Now called Atlanta Robbin’ Season, season two will look at how the lives of Earn (Donald Glover) and Alfred (Brian Tyree Henry) have changed since the events of season one. According to the Press Panel, Donald and Stephen Glover wanted to look at how the success has gotten to Alfred, and how that is paralleled with what is (or isn’t) happening to Earn.

With the change in title this is what Stephen Glover said to Variety:

"More from Hidden RemoteThe story of a French emperor: Here’s where Napoleon will stream after theatersIt’s Thanksgiving Eve! So everybody’s shaken up a little bit this year, and everybody has to make important decisions,” Stephen said. “‘Robbin’ Season’ is kind of like a metaphor for all of our characters.”"

Atlanta Robbin’ Season will also be taking inspiration from Tiny Toon Adventures. This is due to the format they wanted the second season to be consumed and enjoyed, from Variety:

"Both Glovers were inspired by the “How I Spent My Summer Vacation” episodes of “Tiny Toon Adventures,” which were technically individual episodes that could be watched individually but were more enjoyable when strung together, noted Stephen. That is how they want “Atlanta” to be watched and enjoyed."

Atlanta was one of the best new TV series of 2016, it met up to the expectations of its “Twin Peaks with Rappers” premise. There were some very funny moments, which were brilliantly undercut with a biting social commentary of urban Atlanta. Drawn from the experiences of Donald Glover and Stephen Glover, amazingly shot by director Hiro Murai (long time Childish Gambino collaborator), Atlanta gained many fans over its nine episode run. The show also showcased the talents of Brian Tyree Henry (Alfred/Paper Boi), Lakeith Stanfield (Darius) and Zazie Beetz (Vanessa), making all three actors future stars.

If one hasn’t seen Atlanta yet, I demand that you rectify it as soon as possible, at least in time for the second seasons March 1st start date.

Atlanta Robbin’ Season hits FX on March 1.
