Through newly released images on social media we’ve finally received our first glimpse at Mon-El’s costume, but the character’s Supergirl suit isn’t quite what we were excepting.

More from Hidden Remote

Ever since Chris Wood first made his debut as Mon-El on the second season of Supergirl, fans have been counting down the days until the writers finally allowed Wood to suit up. However, now that we’ve gotten our first glimpse at Mon-El’s costume we’re starting to wonder if the payoff was worth all of the hype.

Warning: Spoilers are coming. If you’d like to avoid getting any glimpse of Mon-El’s costume until Supergirl returns later this month, this is where you’ll want to leave us. For everyone too impatient to wait it out – like your’s truly – let’s dive right into things and take a look at Mon-El’s costume so that we can discuss what we love and hate about it.

Following Mon-El’s return this season, it was revealed that he had helped to found the Legion of Superheroes, aka The Legion, during his time in the future which is how he came to know and love She, whose name shall not be spoken Saturn Girl. While the marriage twist was one we could have done without, it has set the stage for the introduction of the Legion of Superheroes who will assemble in the Season 3 winter premiere when they step up to help protect National City while Kara heals from her battle with Reign.

Among the members of the team suiting up to face Reign is Mon-El whose suit has been revealed on social media via the posts below:

Following a vague image posted on Supergirl‘s Instagram page focusing more on The Legion’s iconic ring than Mon-El’s costume, star David Harewood took to his personal Instagram page to share a behind-the-scenes from the set of the show which found Wood wearing a costume which seems to pair up with the one featured in the Supergirl account post touting The Legion’s arrival.

Like many fans, our initial reaction to the suit went something like this:

"“Whoa, wait a minute that’s not the suit we’ve been waiting for! What happened to iconic red and blue suit?”"

Although we fully expected the design team to take some creative liberties with the character’s comic book suit, we expected that Mon-El’s costume would at least somewhat resemble his comic book counterpart’s iconic look which fans have come to know and love.

Instead, the team seems to have completely scrapped Mon-El’s comic book look to deliver a suit which looks like a slightly more sophisticated DEO uniform than a superhero getup. Before we jump to conclusions, it is possible that the red and blue suit will be introduced later in the show’s run and that the suit featured in the images is only temporary.

However, given the buildup to the big reveal of Mon-El’s costume, the fact that the show has once again failed to deliver a suit which resembles the character’s iconic look is one which will likely not sit well with viewers.

Supergirl returns Monday, Jan. 15 at 8/7c on The CW.
