Ewan McGregor starred as the young Obi-Wan in the first turn of the century trilogy. Fans have been wondering for a while now if there will be a standalone movie. The buzz by fans on the Internet are much in favor of an anthology flick and Ewan has been approached by the press regarding this being a possibility.

In March of 2017, Ewan was approached by Steve Weintraub of Collider regarding talking to anyone about said Obi-Wan solo movie. He said he’d like to do one and could see a story occurring between Episodes III and IV.

"“I’d very much like to do one too. I think the story between Episode III and Episode IV, I think there’s a story there. I think that’s the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, if there is one. The one that bridges my Obi-Wan Kenobi and Alec’s Obi-Wan Kenobi because there’s a—I don’t know how long he’s in the desert there, but it’s got to be twenty or thirty years.”"

The following month in April, McGregor had spoken with Entertainment Weekly on this very subject. He admitted to not having been given an “official” offer.

"“There’s no official offer, and I haven’t met them about it or anything, But I’ve always said that I’d be happy to do it if they wanted to do it. It would be a good segue between the last episode of the prequels and the new episodes. I think they’ve got films to make until the 2020s, so I don’t think it’s going to happen soon if it happens at all.”"

Then P90X guru Tony Horton surprised Star Wars fans with this picture…

Now there is a buzz going around the Internet expressing excitement while sharing this photo. He looks like he’s in very good shape and seems energetic. Considering he had done such a great job with his expert choreography in the prequel films, he looks like a prime candidate should an Obi-Wan Kenobi solo movie come to fruition.

McGregor looks like he’s at an appropriate age to appear between Episodes III and IV, so it wouldn’t be surprising.

Keep in mind, the Kenobi book was under the Star Wars “Legends” banner. Thus, Obi’s story is connected to the old Star Wars canon. However, when Lucasfilm decided to adjust the expanded universe, they included the prequel trilogy to move forward with the new canon.

That said, it would make sense to connect an Obi-Wan Kenobi anthology movie to the aforementioned trilogy. So it would be interesting how this story, should it happen, unfold.
