Ruth Connell poised to return as Rowena in S13E12, Various & Sundry Villains

Ruth Connell is poised to make her way back to Supernatural this winter via a return in the twelfth hour of Season 13 – which will welcome the return of a few familiar faces.

From the moment Rowena was “killed” off-screen, Supernatural fans have been counting down the days until Ruth Connell’s devilishly wicked counterpart would return to The CW’s long-running series. Well, the countdown officially has an end date as Connell is rumored to make her return in Episode 12, “Various & Sultry Villains,” which is expected to air Thursday, Feb. 1.
Speculation regarding Connell’s return as Rowena first began back in November when showrunner Robert Singer confirmed that Season 13 would welcome the fan-favorite character as part of one of the seasons’ standalone episodes. However, at the time of the announcement no return date was given for Connell’s quirky villain – until now.
As credited on the show’s IMDB page and supported via a recently released behind-the-scenes image of Connell in character on location, Rowena will pop up in Episode 12 where she seems poised to run into the Winchester brothers, via either a flashback heavy episode or as part of a monster-of-the-week storyline.

Now that we know the when part of the formula, it will be intriguing to see how exactly Rowena makes her return given the fact that she was apparently killed by Lucifer and turned to a pile of ash to prevent her from cheating death… again. As Rowena was killed off-screen, the door has always remained open for her to rise from the ashes – pun most definitely intended – and she wouldn’t be the first character to cheat death this season.
Just this season, the writers found unexpected ways to explain the return of both Castiel and Ketch, with the latter’s return to the world of the living coming via a storyline connected to Rowena.
