Shadowhunters announces Chai Hansen as Jordan: 5 things to know about the newest ShadowFam member

Shadowhunters Season 3 has finally revealed its Jordan, but did you know Chai Hansen has also portrayed a merman and a monkey king? Here’s what you need to know about the Shadowhunters newcomer!

Despite having already filmed for several months, Shadowhunters finally announced that the role of Jordan Kyle would be played by Chai Hansen! Two photos were released today of Jordan introducing himself to Simon, but beyond the bicycle small talk, we’re not sure how closely Jordan’s storyline will follow City of Fallen Angels.

“Jordan comes into Simon’s life in a fun, unexpected way,” showrunners Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer recently said in an interview with EW.

Slavkin and Swimmer also confirmed Simon and Jordan will develop a friendship in the series, “but we soon find out there’s a lot more to Jordan than meets the eye, and repercussions that affect more than just Simon,” they warned.

Are you thinking Chai Hansen looks familiar? It’s very possible you’ve seen this Australian actor on screen before, especially since he’s not new to fantasy and sci-fi genres.

5) You might recognize him from The 100

In Season 4 of The CW’s The 100, Chai played the role of Ilian, a skilled warrior from a family of farmers who was forced to swallow an A.L.I.E chip. He loses his family because of A.L.I.E’s control and promises his dying mother that he will avenge her life. You may remember his character as the warrior who had the incredibly complicated relationship with Octavia. Watch Chai’s emotional first scene on The 100 below:

4) He’s not afraid to dance on set

It’s no secret the Shadowhunters cast has a knack for musical talent, and thanks to a video Chai posted on Instagram last year, it’s safe to say he’ll fit right in with the on-set dance shenanigans:

3) Chai was once a merman!

Ok, not a real merman, but he did play one on Mako Mermaids. Chai portrayed the role of Zac, a boy who falls in the Moon Pool and develops special powers, allowing him the ability to transform into a merman every time he came into contact with water. The series is currently available to stream on Netflix if you’re curious to see more.

2) He’s already developing a Shadowhunters bromance

They’re not quite at the “secret handshake level,” but Chai and Alberto Rosendes’s off-camera bromance also seems to be one that will form on-camera in season 3. What’s more interesting though, is that Chai introduces his character as Kyle, not Jordan, which is a clue about how these two bros may meet in Season 3…

1) He’s playing Monkey on The New Legends of Monkey

Chai will star as Monkey on this new Australian-New Zealand television series, which was inspired by the 16th century Chinese novel Journey to the West. The series premieres at the end of January in Australia and New Zealand, but with Netflix as a contributor, it’s possible the show will be available to stream in other countries as well.
