AMC has dropped a full-length trailer for their upcoming series, The Terror. Ridley Scott is serving as executive producer and the footage looks chilling!

AMC has certainly been busy as of late. Not only did they lock up The Walking Dead for a ninth season, they announced the spring schedule for new and returning series. One of those new series includes The Terror, a frightening adventure-type tale which will likely appeal to the horror fans of the network. The series is based on Dan Simmons’ 2007 best-selling novel and is executive produced by Ridley Scott.

When a group of Englishmen set out to explore the Northwest Passage, they discover more than they bargained for. The journey through the Arctic proves more difficult than imagined as the men become stuck in the ice. The isolation quickly turns into something much more sinister as the men start to fall victim to unexplained events. The trailer for the upcoming series was released at TCA and it looks downright chilling.

More from Hidden Remote

The Terror will consist of 10 episodes and stars a few familiar faces such as Jared Harris, Tobias Menzies, Ciarán Hinds, Paul Ready and Matthew McNulty. Along with the full length trailer, AMC has also provided an official synopsis for the new show:

"Inspired by a true story, The Terror, from executive producers Ridley Scott, David Kajganich and Soo Hugh, takes viewers on a harrowing journey. The story centers on the Royal Navy’s perilous voyage into unchartered territory as the crew attempts to discover the Northwest Passage. Faced with treacherous conditions, limited resources, dwindling hope and fear of the unknown, the crew is pushed to the brink of extinction. Frozen, isolated and stuck at the end of the earth, The Terror highlights all that can go wrong when a group of men, desperate to survive, struggle not only with the elements, but with each other."

AMC and its love affair with horror

The threat of some mysterious creature leaving huge footprints behind is obviously intriguing. But on the other hand, the series looks like it will also be taking a deep dive into mental terror. The isolation and desperation when in survival mode often play tricks on the mind. Is something hunting these men or are they only threats to each other? Either way, we will definitely be tuning in to find out.

The Terror is the latest AMC project to debut in a horror and suspense-focused lineup. The network also has a number of horror-related series slated for release for 2018 and beyond. Most noteworthy include Greg Nicotero’s anthology series Shock Theatre, Underbelly, The Wicked West, NOS4A2 (based on Joe Hill’s novel), and the AMC Visionary series, Eli Roth’s History of Horror. The Terror and the upcoming shows may provide new life into the lineup. This comes at a fitting time as the network’s heavy-hitter, The Walking Dead, has been losing steam as of late. Due to the network’s use of series with shorter seasons, there needs to be an ongoing schedule to appeal to viewers. The Terror might be the start of newfound success for the network and having someone like Ridley Scott develop your latest TV project definitely won’t hurt.

The Terror premieres Monday, March 26th 9/8c on AMC!
