Grey’s Anatomy renewal news: Could a 2-season renewal be on the horizon?

On the heels of Ellen Pompeo’s new 2-year deal, could a 2-season Grey’s Anatomy renewal be on the horizon? It definitely seems like a strong possibility!
After 14 seasons at the center of ABC’s most lucrative and successful drama, actress Ellen Pompeo rightfully became television’s highest paid actress via a new 2-year deal that will guarantee her future on Grey’s Anatomy while also allowing her the ability to serve as producer on the show and an executive producer on its upcoming spinoff. So what does Pompeo’s deal mean for the future of the show and could a Grey’s Anatomy renewal be inching closer?
In recent years, Pompeo has been frank that she’ll continue to do the show as long as creator Shonda Rhimes wants its to continue. Meanwhile, Rhimes has noted that she’ll continue to do the show so long as Pompeo is interested in continuing her tenure as Dr. Meredith Grey. With Pompeo now locked in to play the character for two more years, it seems all but certain that the long-running medical drama will stick around for a fifteenth and sixteenth season.

So could a 2-season Grey’s Anatomy renewal be on the horizon as ABC begins to lay out its plans for next season?
As of press time no official announcement has been made regarding the show’s future, but with ABC locking Pompeo in for two more years the renewal of Grey’s Anatomy seems like a formality that the network will happily make when the time is right.

While 2-season renewals are rare, they’re far from uncommon. In recent years, shows such as This Is Us, The Big Bang Theory, NCIS and ABC’s very own Modern Family have each been rewarded with 2-season pickups allowing the writers to plan out two seasons in advance and helping to give fans a sense of calm knowing their favorite shows won’t be going anywhere… and it definitely looks like Grey’s won’t be leaving the airwaves anytime soon!
