Releasing in February, Netflix’s Everything Sucks! is a love letter to the 90’s and hopefully, their next big hit. Here’s why you should check it out.

The 90’s are back, baby! From chokers to overalls to a million and two reboots, it’s starting to feel like we’re in a time machine. It’d only be smart for some TV networks to jump on the bandwagon, too. Netflix didn’t hesitant and plans to release Everything Sucks!, a teen show set in the 90’s.

Much like everything else the company touches, it’s poised for success. Before it releases in February, here are a few reasons why it’s worth bingeing. The show is set to be released in full on Netflix on Feb. 16.

One thing Netflix has done incredibly well for all its original programs is casting a great group of actors. From Stranger Things to GLOW to Luke Cage, they have been killing it. Everything Sucks! isn’t any different. While the cast is full of mostly unknown young actors, it goes to show how much faith Netflix has.

They probably never imagined how successful the Stranger Things cast would be. The same can be said for Everything Sucks! It’s odd how similar the two shows are as they are both set in the past, feature young casts and have a quirky charm to them.

Besides repeating a similar formula, the show has an interesting premise. According to the official Netflix description, it is: “Two groups of high school misfits — the AV club and the drama club — collide in this quirky coming-of-age story set in 1996 Oregon.” Both groups in the show are rarely represented in mainstream media and will break the tradition of having just the stereotypical popular groups.

It’s going to be nice to see some fun and weird kids on TV. If anyone can pull off a show with fun and quirky kids, it’s Netflix. The other reason you should watch it is because it’s the 90’s and Netflix is counting on that. They’re looking at the nostalgia factor of the show to suck you in and with good reason.

Personally, nostalgia is the main reason why the show caught my eye. The show will hopefully be a love letter to the 90’s while still poking fun at it. That blend of humor and a coming-of-age story is classic 90’s, too.

While the title is funny, it’s incredibly true. Teenagers from today aren’t too far from the teenagers in the 90’s. They still think everything sucks, wear similar clothes and act just as angsty. It’s a little something for everyone in a way, no matter if you’re a teenager, an adult or somewhere in between.

Everything Sucks! does have a lot to live up to, but it could be Netflix’s next big hit. With early comparisons to Freaks and Geeks, why not give it a try? Maybe, it’ll become your new favorite show. If not, well maybe everything sucks.
