The loss of Nathan has rocked Port Charles leaving his expectant wife heartbroken.

Nathan West is gone. This has been one heartbreaking week on General Hospital watching the good cop lose his life trying to protect the woman he loves, and their unborn child, from Cesar Faison. Now Maxie Jones West is forced to face life without her husband. It was hard to watch. GH fans have cried many tears over Maxie’s heartbreak, as well as Nathan’s sister and mom, Nina and Liesl. Wednesday’s episode was so well done that viewers are calling the performances Emmy-worthy.

Everything changes in a split second

That moment when Nathan flatlined after telling Maxie that he loved her and feeling the baby kick for the first time kind of stabbed you in the heart. She was devastated to say the least, as was everyone who watched the scenes unfold.

For anyone who is not a fan of daytime TV may not understand the emotions one goes through when a beloved cast member is killed off. For long time viewers of General Hospital, or any soap for that matter, these types of scenes are etched in your mind.

Nathan’s death scene is a bit reminiscent of another story line that also involved Maxie when she was young. She got a new heart from her cousin BJ who died in an accident. Those scenes were heart wrenching, as was yesterday’s episode with the loss of Nathan West.

Kudos to the GH cast

General Hospital fans are praising the performances by Kirsten Storms (Maxie), Michelle Stafford (Nina), and Kathleen Gati (Liesl Obrecht). Many have mentioned how they felt like they were in Maxie’s shoes actually going through the pain of losing their husband. When she broke down after seeing the baby’s sonogram with his blood splattered on it, you could hear the sobs from every viewer as well.

There were also similar comments about Nina and Dr. O’s grief. When Nina was screaming, “You killed my brother!” as she was heading towards Faison’s room, you experienced the pain that she was going through. In fact, it may have hit home for those fans who have gone through their own loss of close family members.

In fact, Michelle Stafford sent out this tweet thanking everyone. This is what gives General Hospital captivated and coming back for more.

The upcoming funeral

It is not over yet, GH fans! You will have to endure the funeral of Nathan West coming up soon. There will also be the fallout of his death. The guilt, the blame, and the grieving process will be examined. There is much more to come, so stay tuned to see how Maxie, Nina, Liesl, and all who loved Nathan, get through this devastating loss.
