This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown took over the legendary stage of Saturday Night Live for his first hosting gig, and these are the best sketches!

Live from New York, it’s Sterling K. Brown! The Emmy-winning star of NBC’s top drama series This Is Us took his talents to another major NBC series. For his first turn as Saturday Night Live host, Brown switched gears from the time-jumping tearjerker and brought all of the laughs. It was a welcome change up from all of the feels.

While there weren’t any cameos from his This Is Us costars, Sterling K. Brown commanded the stage like he does best and delivered laugh-out-loud parodies of the family drama and the biggest movie of the year, Black Panther, which he also stars in. (No biggie!) But which of the sketches were the best? Here are the highlights from SKB’s debut on Saturday Night Live!

Monologue

Everyone knows that the SNL monologue sets the tone for the whole episode. Thankfully, Sterling K. Brown knocked his out of the park. The opening set played into the excessive crying inspired by This Is Us and SKB’s many awards acceptance speeches.

Family Feud: Oscars Edition

Family Feud sketches have become a staple on Saturday Night Live for the cast and host to show off their best — sometimes unlikely — celebrity impressions, such as Ariana Grande doing Jennifer Lawrence. This time, it was an Oscars edition, and Brown gave us his take on Common.

Doctor Love

Sterling K. Brown injects energy into an otherwise lifeless (and ridiculous) sketch in which he plays a doctor who can’t help but meddle in his patient’s love life.

Family Dinner-Shrek

Leave it to SNL to always bring the weirdest sketches to life. In this family dinner scenario, a woman brings her boyfriend over for dinner to meet her parents, but he becomes interestingly defensive of the movie Shrek. Sterling K. Brown proves his comedy chops for making this out-there but hilarious sketch work.

Black Panther New Scene

This one’s self explanatory. Black Panther + Kenan Thompson = The cut of the movie we never knew we needed until now.

Dying Mrs. Gomez

Speaking of weird sketches, this one makes Sterling K. Brown sing the Nickelback song “You Remind Me.” It’s unqualified strangeness, but once again, SKB sells it.

Movie Coverage

There’s always one sketch that’s forgettable. We have a winner!

We all knew a This Is Us satire of some sort was coming down the pipeline the second Brown was announced as host. Even though none of his fellow Pearsons show up in the sketch, SNL takes the Big Three and flips them with a piercing parody of the current United States government. Brown does a pitch perfect Ben Carson impression, and we’re already starting his Emmy campaign.
