Who gave the best toast at Kate and Toby’s wedding, Kevin or Randall? Both were beautiful and oh-so This Is Us, but fans cried a little more for one.

Okay, no more fooling around, it’s time to get down to brass tacks. Which Pearson brother gave the best speech at Kate and Toby’s wedding? I know, I know. It’s not fair to pit these two against each other, but they both decided to make us uncontrollably sob during the This Is Us Season 2 finale, so they kind of had it coming, wouldn’t you say?

As all fans have surely cried about by now, the season finale of This Is Us saw Kate and Toby walk down the aisle — as did Rebecca and Jack. While we’re still wiping away tears from seeing what Jack would look like in the present day, and not to mention those multiple unanswered questions, now is the time to reflect one the monologues that give Jack Pearson a run for his money.

First up to give his speech was Kevin, who made his toast extremely personal and specific to the Pearson family. He wasn’t providing the Webster’s dictionary definition of marriage and skating by on the bare minimum. No, he relied on Jack’s looming presence in their hearts to grant his family an opportunity to release the breath they have each been holding since his passing. Oh, what’s that in my eye? Must be an eyelash.

Next up was Randall, who was called on by Kevin to unleash some words of martial wisdom for the new couple. Since Beth and Randall are pretty much the best couple on This Is Us, who’s better suited for this role than Randall? Randall’s speech touched on the unpredictability of the future and the value in relinquishing control. However, Randall notes that we can control the people we choose, and Kate and Toby chose each other perfectly.

Without a doubt, these Pearson men inherited their way with words from their father, and it’s difficult to choose which speech was better (is there such a thing?) or even which one pulled on the heartstrings tightest. But that’s what Twitter polls are for. After polling a loyal bunch of This Is Us fans, 52% of fans said they preferred Kevin’s toast, while the remaining 48% preferred Randall’s. It’s not a clean 50/50 split, but its shockingly close.

Of course, you can’t go wrong with either Kevin or Randall’s kind words, and this isn’t meant to be a competition (no matter how competitive Kevin and Randall are or used to be). Still, it’s interesting from time to time to bask in the embarrassment of riches This Is Us hands to its viewers and celebrate the wonderfully heartwarming/breaking writing that’s basically a privilege to watch each week. Between Kevin and Randall’s toast, we’re all winners!
