In a report showing how Amazon rates their TV shows, could The Man in the High Castle season 3 be the last?
As we patiently wait for the third season of The Man in the High Castle, a recent report that claims to have internal documents revealing how Amazon rates their TV series, shows that The Man in The High Castle is not faring too well and may not be attracting enough new customers.
Released via Reuters, it details how much a TV series cost to make per new customer. Referred to as the “cost per first stream.” It compares the cost of the total show to the number of new subscribers to Amazon Prime to watch that specific show. For example, if a show called X-Ray cost $100 to make and it attracted 10 new subscribers. It therefore has a “cost per first stream” of $10. The lower the number the better for Amazon.

That evaluation, when applied to The Man in the High Castle, is not putting the alternate history series in a favorable position. In fact, it could be argued that show could face cancellation if the numbers do not improve.
The Man in the High Castle “cost per first stream” evaluation
In the report, season 2 of The Man in the High Castle has a “cost per first stream” value of $829. That value takes into account both production and marketing costs. That’s a lot of money. It looks even worse however when compared to season 1. The very first season only cost $72 million to make and it had an average audience of 1.15 million. That gives it a “cost per first stream” value of $63.
Effectively, season 2 cost Amazon thirteen times more than it did season 1. If that number continue to grow, it would not be surprising if Amazon decided it was no longer worth their while to keep the series going.
