Is Silver Surfer in Avengers: Infinity War?

There are a ton of characters in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War movie. Is Silver Surfer among them?

According to the Metacritic page for Avengers: Infinity War, Silver Surfer is one of the characters in the film. Given the Silver Surfer is still owned by Fox, and a close on that deal likely won’t happen until at least the end of the year, Silver Surfer’s inclusion seems unlikely.

Having said that, Metacritic is a pretty accurate site. Furthermore, having Silver Surfer in the Avengers: Infinity War movie would be pretty awesome. Fingers crossed.

Is the Silver Surfer in the comic book source material?

At this point, who isn’t in the movie? Aligning everything with the comics, however, is a tricky proposition. Aside from the aforementioned Fox issue leaving Silver Surfer and several others out, there is the issue of whether they belong in the first place. He certainly doesn’t show up in the trailer.

As for the comics, Silver Surfer unequivocally belongs in Avengers: Infinity War. It takes virtually no research at all to see him featured prominently on the cover of the first Infinity War comic. Furthermore, Silver Surfer 67 and Silver Surfer 68 make it pretty clear he’s involved.

If Silver Surfer is in Avengers: Infinity War, then everyone might as well be in. Including John Wick.

Who is allegedly cast as Silver Surfer?

According to the Metacritic page, Curt Clendenin is the man for the job. A quick scroll through Curt’s respectful, but unimpressive IMDB page causes some questions. If Clendenin is going to be Silver Surfer, then shouldn’t his resume be topped by something a bit better than miscellaneous crew or uncredited office employee? Silver Surfer is a massive character in the Marvel Comic Universe, and nobody wants to see another Silver Surfer strikeout.

Personally, I’d rather see Terry Crews take the role. All things considered, Clendenin’s IMDB page makes the idea a bit unlikely. About as likely as including Garfield or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

So is it real or not?

According to Marvel Studio News, it’s probably a mix-up. Metacritic gets information from IMDB, and IMDB allows user input. So if you’d like to be in the new Avengers: Infinity War movie, hurry over to IMDB and insert yourself as an unaccounted for character. Dibs on Hercules and Moon Knight!
